my brother in law changed the oil on his commodore.
it took something like 8 litres - to fill it right to the top of the rocker cover.
after that it got a bit messy....

use new copper or aluminium crush washers, bleed the side closest to master cyl first, take your time.
make sure you route 'em correctly and they don't rub.
check for leaks after bleeding and before riding.

enjoy the improved 'feel'.

yes it is a wierd sound. not a happy sound though.
pinging or pinking (pre-ignition knock) -(dont trust me, google it) - is when there is ignition before the piston gets to the top for the spark to fire the mix. sounds like a marble inside a can. this will root your motor.
run a higher octane fuel ...

lowering link for the r-send, get the front forks down the triple clamps and maybe re-worked for a 30mm drop.
shave some seat padding off at the upholsterers and you're all set!
