Can I fit an Mich 190/50 zr17 on my rear wheel ,I currently run a 180/55zr17.


I am on tight budget(xmas&birthdays&crap)
or any replacement to get through xmas time.

You probably can, but you probably shouldn't. The flatter profile of the fatter tyre is likely to upset the steering balance... bikes like carbed R1's, pre-2000 GSX-R750's, ZX-7R's, all of which run a 190-section rear as stock all turn much better with a 180 fitted.

Are you sure I-K ? I always thought that jamming a 190 section tyre onto a 5.5" rim caused more of a "lump" in the middle of the tyre, effectively making it taller and as a result turn-in quicker. I'm happy to be told otherwise but I'm struggling to understand how the skinnier tyre would make the bike turn more quickly - I'd have expected a larger flat area on the bottom :?

Note that I don't say the fatter tyre will make the bike steer slower; I say it'll upset the steering balance... bit more general.

Keep in mind that tyres are constructed with the belts wound the thickest across the crown of the profile; the tyre's the stiffest there, and has more give in it either side. Thus, if you try to fit it to a narrower rim than recommended, it will distort further out towards the edge of the profile, not near the middle. The profile will become more trapezoidal than normal, not necessarily more triangular; rather than have a bike which'll consistently tip in quicker, you're likely to have something which'l tip in more gradually through small lean angles, then more aggressively as you get to bigger lean angles.

Not ideal.

Most importantly, the crown of the tyre is not going to bulge further outwards, giving you a greater rolling diameter. The purpose of the radially-wound belts is precisely to keep that in check.
