Snaped clutch cable

Sun Nov 27, 2005 7:30 pm

Well last night my clutch cable completley sanped in 2 just as i pulled into the servo, could have been real intereting if i was knocking down gears into a 1st gear corner but anyways has this happened to anyone else my bike is only 3yrs old regularly serviced and looked after no clutch wheelies either??
$200 clutch cable inc fitting and $700+ for 24,000km service and just B4 xmas that could have been a nice $G in my pocket,
So all in all i want something cheaper to maintain and run for the mean time (yr or so) have been looking at the Husqvana SMR510 super moto as most of my riding is to and from work and back and forth from mates places and the odd wkend blast so it wasn't too fitting for the ZX6R any other suggestions for a good fun commuter or second bike low running cost, cheap insurance as i will wait for the second gen of the new ZX10R??

Holy snapping duckshit that is an expensive clutch cable! Can you solder? If so you can make a new inner with parts available from a bike shop- my local wreckers can supply new universal clutch cable and all you need to do is cut to length, put cable inside your existing sheath, and solder one end (the other end is pre-manufactured) I did this with my Z440 - cost $15 from memory, and I would recommend that you solder the cable at the engine end- the wreckers recommended doing it the other way around- at the clutch lever end, but I found that it didn't last due to the twisting action up there- it is much easier for the cable (and my soldering) at the engine end. Bet you broke yours at the lever end too.... :D
