A couple of podium finishes today.
In race 3 of supersport Robbie Baird came 3rd. Also in race 3 of superbike Jamie Stauffer came 3rd just behind the 2 nikon yamahas.
One of my riding mates got a pic with some track day hack. He said his name was Mick Doohan.

Anyone here heard of him?

shite!
Condolences to his family.

My condolences as well ... maybe some more pc litrate person can find us a link so we can pass on some well wishes to his family and friends (via his race team perhaps?).
I think we all take bike riding a bit lightly at times(not implying Kirk did), Shitty occassions like this can help us "take stock" as it were.
The Fact that he was doing what he loved isn't much comfort for those left behind by such tragedy.
"Visor Tap Kirk McCarthy"

Champion killed in Superbike race
August 16, 2004 - 2:39PM
Leading motorcyclist Kirk McCarthy has died after a high speed crash with another rider during a round of the Australian Superbike Championships in Queensland.
Mr McCarthy, 35, from Wantirna South in Melbourne, was injured in a collision with another motorcycle during the event at Willowbank Raceway near Ipswich yesterday.
Police said today he was rushed to the Ipswich hospital, but died during surgery.
Mr McCarthy had a long history in superbike racing in Australia and overseas, winning the Australian Championship in 1995 riding a Honda and contesting the World Superbike Championships.
The owner of Willowbank Raceway, John Tetley, said today the two bikes had come together on turn four during the event.
"Both would have been travelling at around 180kph and under heavy braking at the time of the accident," Mr Tetley said.
He said the bikes had slid off the track into "a big open space" and had not hit any of the raceway infrastructure.
"It has really upset the staff of the raceway and we are very disappointed because it is the first fatality we have had in the five years we have operated the track," Mr Tetley said.
another good racer.....damn

We are very sad to report that Kirk McCarthy has passed away while undergoing surgery in Brisbane following an accident at Queensland Raceway today during the sixth round of the Australian Superbike Championship. Kirk has been part of the woodwork in Australian road racing for more years than most of us can remember. He was extremely well liked and will be sorely missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. Our thoughts are with his family and close friends, of which he had many

Damn! First Jono Porter, now Kirk.
Not a good year for Aussie motorcycle racing of either type.
