Volvo yeah but being 10mm wider than the 9R makes it a land barge granted it is a heavy machine but ya gota give a lil' in one area to get the best in another.

Yeah, thats only slowed him on the straights now That eMpTy does exceptionally well through the corners. Funny thing Stu wants more power me thinks he will be back to a 12R soon thats my prediction for 2006

I was looking at one today actually, the frame is quite interesting and also leads to it being so tall, wonder why they didn't slant the engine forward more

Yes a very interesting concept indeed, I am sure the engine is placed for balance overall, kwaka did extensive testing on this bike like no other involving aeronautical engineers as well.
Tall in the saddle yes but makes no great difference until reaching warp speed. It is a well balanced bike all in all but you soon forget all that once that throttle is cracked open.

I think the 12R's are wicked machines... but the seats are too gooshie... I like the seats on the 636 better... Also the ride height is too low for my liking...

My impression after my most recent ride of a 12 was that it felt like my old 9 but with the power of the 10....and that can't be a bad thing

Good analogy, I thought the 10 was small really small in comparrison almost 636 like, I went for the 12 mainly for the touring side of things otherwise a 10 might be in the garage. I think they are more your weekend blat bike rather than a distance machine, thats my opinion so far. Awesome power too for its size, race bred really, I would love to have one for a week to get a good feel for it.

I actually think the 10 was more comfortable riding to Phillip Island than the 9 was....but nobody believes me

The ride height is actually lower than the 03/04/05/06 636's

coz the 250 and the 600 and the mighty 1100 and 1200
have centre stands.....
and yes they are sportsbikes.....

well, yes, once upon a time in a galaxy far far away.........about 1991 I think I sincerely hope not to have upset any ZZR owners ( of any capacity), of course, being the shy retiring wallflower that I am, its not in my nature to upset anybody

Didn't ZZR's lose the 'sports' tag when the ZX series ( all capacities) was released ??

Having only ever ridden 1 ZX9R ( ex-TKA 900, built for Formula Xtreme, only used in a couple of rounds back in the late '90's), its very difficult for me to reconcile the "Big 9" tag.......although there are some similarities, they are basically a totally different motorcycle.

And from a totally objective viewpoint, not having been bought up on a diet of smaller-capacity sportsbikes prior to getting the 12, I can honestly say it is quicker through the twisties than just about anything short of a ZX10, R1 or Gixxer thou. Not too bad for an *overweight* sports bike.

It will hose the 14 anywhere, except the Hume Highway stretch near Mittagong, and possibly the #2 International runway at Mascot

You are forgetting that they havent actually made any announcement with regards to specs for the 14. Rumour doing the rounds at the moment is 200+ hp and weighing it at less than the 12! With a similar wheelbase.

Here's an announcement - 3 weeks ago, I obtained the full Factory specifications of the Ninja ZX-14 from my local dealer. He has looked after me for many years, and continues to do so. In return, I promised not to scan and post the 16-page Factory spec-sheet he gave me......

but here's some early mail.....

Factory Model Designation - ZX1400A

In *certain* markets, it will be known as the ZZR-1400A1. The picture on the front cover of the spec-sheets actually has ZZR-1400 badges along the seat in the same place that other pictures show the ZX-14 designation.

The 'R' has been dropped, because this model will be the designated 'Hyper-tourer' of the range. It does not carry the 'R' designation because it is *not* a 'sports' bike in the normally accepted sense of the word 'sports'.

Wheelbase is shorter than a ZZR1200 , but longer than a ZX12R (around 40mm longer )

Dry weight, *alleged* around 230kg......ZX12R dry is 210. Most of this extra weight is the centrestand

Rear tyre width has been reduced to a 190/50..........

*Alleged* hp - Yes, around 200hp claimed at crank, should equate to around 180-185 at rear wheel or thereabouts.

Just think, I remember when Wayne Gardner's GP bike was putting out about 180 hp....

Basically, this thing is a stretched, heavier, bored-out version of a ZX12, with *basically* the same chassis, same engine with a bigger bore, same forks with slightly re-worked internals to cope with more weight, better wheels, and different cosmetics. Oh, and a Centre-stand, grab rails, no pillion cowl ( but a comfortable pillion seat - a-la ZZR-style), and 2 huge exhausts.......
