z750 v sv650

Fri Nov 11, 2005 12:54 am

hey fellas after ur opinion. I want a new bike. a supersport is out of the question. financially due to insurance.

firstly wanted to know the difference between an 03 - 04 model Z750

If their are any common problems i should know about and what i should expect to pay.

Also has anyone got any negative info on the z. only thing i can think of is the weight. but hey its not a super sport 195 aint too bad!

i think you will find that a z750 would slaughter the sv650 in the go department...
i have a 1000, and the seat sux, but thats about it..

I just rode a Z750 this morning, a loaner bike while my ZX6R being serviced.

Nice engine!! Verrrry smooth, LOADS of grunt compared to the 6. Excellent brakes. My only complaint is the soft-ish front suspension but I reckon that's how a streetfighter should be ?

with the z 750.
KHI looked at the SV650 and asked the question "how can we make this bike better?" and they did.
nothin wrong with the SV, Ro-dogg's got one. he'll tell u all the problems with his. just keep the battery charged
plus the z750 looks better.

Yep no changes apart from the paint as far as I know...

No probs that I've heard of and the engine is so under-stressed (ex ZX9R lump) that they should go forever.

Yep the weight, the lack of fly-screen, budget suspension (not adjustable) and budget brakes (2 pots). Basically a very good bike for the money.

I thought the 04 had built in engine disabler.... and that was the only change other than the paint.... or is that the 05?

Nope 05 is also the same, you're thinking of the 06!

The weakest point on most 'budget' bikes is low-rent suspension, but both the bikes you mention suffer a little in this department so I would exclude this from your comparison!

Rebuilt forks with gold valves will only be around $600 ($300 just to rebuild without goldvalves) so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

And yes, it is the '06 which has the engine immobiliser...

Which reminds me, getting a change over figure tomorrow... :D

shouldn't be hard...Z1000 with 10k on it (or was it less?) was asking $11k...Z750 should be cheaperer!

end of the day.
most sprots bikes will never be ridden to their potential.
and i doubt if you took it to the track, you'd be able to ride the z750 to its potential.
u can't go wrong.
and it looks damn horny.

I have a black z750 2004 model and have rebuilt the suspension plus fitted braided lines, I even have a z 1000 fly screen and braket. If your interested just PM me.

I'll throw in some more violent agreement...

I got to ride a Z750 for about 4km last Sunday and I dug it with a shovel. The motor had some real go in it and the suspension was surprisingly controlled for bargain-basement barely-adjustable stuff.

The carbed SV650S I rode a few years back was a toy in comparison.
