Adjusting the chain

ok gonna adjust my chain this weekend because it's flapping round a bit.
Now the only thing that worries me about this job is dealing with the rear axle nut. How tight should it be done up? I assume it's meant to be pretty tight.
Should I use a torque wrench? if so, what value should it be set at ?

i've never used a torque wrench on any bike. my general rule was to do it up with the socket until you feel it "pinch" or "tighten". then give it an extra good nudge. that way it is definitely tight, but not overtight.
just be sure that you have the bar in a good leverage position when you go to pinch it up.

I rarely undo the rear axle nut to adjust the chain.

I find that a 1/4 - 1/2 a turn on the adjuster nuts each side is enough to give the back wheel a bit of a nudge and tighten the chain.

145 Nm.

Jason, there is no chance in hell of moving the axle if the nut is tightened correctly. If yours does, the nut is not tight, or, you have a serious problem. Check it out.

Do it up till it strips then back it off half a turn

umm i didnt think u should b able to move the axle without loosening it either...so i do it up to TAF (tight as fark) then it stays there...till the next time i try to undo it....
