welcome aboard.
Best advice I can give you is to talk a walk down Elizabeth Street, see what Kwaks they got in your price range and take them ALL for a test ride. Thats a fun day out!!

thanks for advice guys, for some reason I hadn't really looked at the ZZR600, and your right, wasn't it the fastest 600 around in its day? Have looked at the ZX636R but it's more your full sports bike rather a sports tourer, I'm keen on doing a trip over to the Perth with my son next year, and as he's on an R1, I will bet you a brick crapper that I will be carrying the luggage.

I'd like to be the first to offer my condolences on hearing your son rides a Yamaha. Professional help is available.
But seriously (well more so anyway) sounds like a top road trip, hope you get to do it.

Hi Jeff, welcome aboard mate. If you want a bit more 'tourer' then the ZZR is the ducks guts. A 636 will give you a crook back if you are over 45 and haven't already got one
cheers

You could pick up a good 6R in your price range...
Is there such a thing as a bad 6R? i think not.

Welcome Nobby.
It all comes down to what your going to use it for.. I don't use mine for comuting and don't have anyone on the back now days, otherwise i would have bought a ZX9R.
Look at a pre 02 ZX6R, you might find it a better fit for your needs and within your price range.
E-mail Corbywan, as he's in the process of upgrading his and your in the correct ball park, price wise. He is over your way too.
Here's a link to his bike and addy..

No self-respecting mother would allow her child on anthing but a kwaka - this woman will do much damage to your son if left unchecked and it always starts with something seemingly harmless... J/K
Welcome aboard and enjoy the madness that is ksrc - never had a back problem with the ZX636 - but then I haven't hit 45 just yet

Be honest - could have been worse, could have been a yami or suzi...

You're right... Even a bad kwaka is better than those...
