Fuel gauge

Postby Colette » Sun Sep 11, 2005 4:12 pm

What would be the most likely reason for a fuel gauge to suddenly stop working? Noticed mine has conked out and wondered why.

Did it stop working at about the same time the engine also stopped working and refused to re-start?

Sorry, need more details. What model bike? Where and when did you notice it had stopped working? is it stuck at the top of the guage, middle or bottom / off the scale? have you checked fuses?

It's a 2000 ZZR600, engine is running beautifully, no other problems. Had a service two weeks ago.

The gauge is reading empty, although the tank is still two thirds full.

Haven't been commuting to work any more, so am riding less, that is the only recent change.

does the guage move at all? ie does it read 1/3 when full?
You say you had it serviced recently. During the service the tank would have had to have come off to access air filter and more. Check the connection to the tank. I am not sure where it is located ( most of the time it is near the tap )on your bike but if you are able to remove the tank yourself it is very easy to spot as it is the only electrical connection to the tank.
