I liked the mustang better
Many many years ago, I was outside and a mustang and spitfire flew over together in a low formation.. that rocked
Pity the zero kicked butt on both of them

Seafury Kicked all 3 of those Butts, but took a week to turn around
Thanks Mike.
Cheers Brett

The Mustang actually used the Spitfire engine. The original Allison engine wasn't supercharged so the plane was great for ground support but useless for bomber cover. Allison started building the Rolls Royce Merlin under liscence and putting them into the B and C varients of the Mustang. The two stage supercharger ment they still kicked ass at realy high altitudes.

There was a great scene in a movie of a few years ago , I think it was called "Empire of the Sun " about internment of a kid in a Japanese prison camp in China and a P51 zooms over the camp . Awesome . Dont remember much else about the film .

the Mustang was a match for the Mitsubishi Zero
....only after they stuck the Spitfire based V12 Merlin engine in it

Knew you would be on this Smitty .
Gotta love the sound of that Leyland V8

I will be watching too...
Did I mention that getting my bike licence was actually my second option to getting my pilots licence? I figured for the price of just getting a pilot licence, I'd get a licence, bike + gear, and be able to use it every day without going completely broke, nor having to submit a flight plan...
...And I remember going to an airshow up at Atherton a few years ago, where one of the draw cards was a 747 pilots own personal Mustang. That thing was FAST and he knew how to fly it. He did a low fast pass and there is just nothing like the sound.
So yeah, I'll be watching!

Heheheh - this makes me think about that nasty nasty nasty big plane thing at the gp that flew over so fast noone saw it coming and the noise went BANG a couple seconds after the plane went past - Heheheheheheh me and duane were waiting in line at the food place and nearly shit out pants.
Kinda off topic but god dam it was funny

You guys would have loved the Veteran's Day stuff they had here a few weeks back...a Spitfire, F111, Phantom, Canberra bomber, roullettes and all sorts of other planes I know nothing about but looked and sounded awesome, all flying around Canberra for most of the day, ending up with a big twilight fireworks display that had some afterburner and dump and burn action mixed in

thats an FA-18 fighter
and we (us in Bayside) get a free viewing coz it starts
its run to Albert Park about where we live...
its so low over our place, we even have had a wave
back from the pilot
the only problem here is....all the burglar/car alarms go off
it also sets off all the dogs too, so bloody noisy!

I love the airshow when its on down here
and as I live under the air corridor between Avalon
and Moorabbin airports, we get lots of free viewing too
there is also a bloke at Moorabbin who has a Mustang and
over the finer weather months, he gives it a bit of stick
most Sundays...its awesome
