what a great idea !! If you haven't yet organised a test ride on the z1000, you should put it straight to the top of your priority list - they are a heap of fun to ride, with a much more 'normal' riding position than your 6. I test rode one a couple of years ago, could not believe (a) how light it was and (b) how quick it was. King of the Naked bikes

My suggestion is yes, go an ride one then buy one, even if it is second hand, although you can't beat brand spanking new. I think they are still about 15k but with a trade etc you should be able to get that down a lot. I do a lot of commuting to work and even taken it for long stretch's down the M1 to the Gold Coast etc and its just a dream to ride.
It is one of the best bikes I have ever riden and I will never get rid of mine, even if I buy another bike. I think in a number of years they will be a classic like the original Z's.

i have some holidays in the next couple of weks so i will take one for a ride and make a decision then. although my mind is definately made up about selling my bike just have to arrange a roadworthy and advertising. once sold i will walk in to kwaka wave a wad of cash in front of them and try and get a good deal on a new one before i look at 2nd handbikes.

i had thought the same thing. maybe you could use the front end off of a z750 or z thou but it seems like to much hassle to me and i would be ruining a perfectly good bike. its easier to just buy one that came from the factory like that.

Buy the ZD

Seems like your sold on the Zed Tez, but just a coupla points in defence of the 6.
They are noted for their overly harsh rear Spring, theres a couple on here that have changed them & now sing their praises. Me included after a session on Beryl's at Darlington Park.
Also a Lambswool seat cover & a throtlle rocker (cruise control) & i reckon you'll halve your lower back problems.
Finally to put a spanner right in the works, dont rule out the ZED7, very capable & a "buckets'o'fun" Scoot as well.
hth.

when i went to pick up my bike after signing a contract i saw a zthou for the first time and fell in love but couldn't afford it at the time. now there are a few 2nd hand ones around i can get the bike i want without losing to much money.if i stick it out with the zx6 i will only be going further backwards. i think now is the best time to change over.

i went on a test ride on a zthou today. definately made the decision easier. my bike is now in the forsale section.
