"New" noise, or is it?

For general Technical and Performance Discussions

Pop the bike in neutral and let it idle...pull the clutch in, let it out and see if that isn't the noise...clutchy things can make a bit of noise on these things, so I keep getting told...I tend not to notice

The tensioner should be on the front of the engine, to one side I would assume. A couple of bolts with a round thing in the middle. Gee, that description narrows it down, eh? Maybe someone else with the same/similar bike can take a photo for you so you know what your are looking for.

Wouldn't expect a lot of slack at 25,000km though...why I think it may be something else... :? But I guess the tensioner could be doing something weird...

man I need a coffee...

Don't worry about it unless it breaks angry9.gif :!:

Flog the nuts out of it...trade it in on a newy...baby it until it starts making weird noises...flog nuts out of it...trade it in on a newy...repeat

and was there something wrong with that plan?

Trade in always assumes the bike has been flogged - who the hell buys a sportsbike to dawdle around town?? So, enjoy it!

9R gearbox noise.

Postby Robsalvv » Fri Sep 09, 2005 5:50 pm

Hi folks... ex ksrc member from the yahoo days... thought I'd come back. :)

And have a question to boot.

My '029R with 22k on the clock has been making a gravelly noise on idle that actually changes volume and vibe when the clutch is in. When the clutch is out, there are some vibes and noise, when the clutch is in, it's mostly all engine noise.

The guys are racereplica tell me Kwaka's make noisy gearboxes... I don't know. I first noticed it around 16k on the clock... but haven't met another 9R with the same clicks to compare.

Any thoughts?

cheers

Rob

APE do a manual cam chain tensioner. they are supposed to make the bike alot queiter. The kawi ones are known to be a little unreliable. If you go onto http://www.zxzone.com you'll see them. you can mod the standard one to be a manual tensioner if you want to save some $$$ though.
