Need some advice :)

Sun Jul 17, 2005 1:35 pm

Hey guys!

I've just taken my girlfriend for her FIRST ever ride on the back of my 10. She's now inlove with it, and wants to get her own license. Ideally, I want to buy her a 250, so she can learn etc. What I'm after is some decent bike suggestions. She doesnt like the sports bikes, as she has to lean forward, so she'd rather sit upright. Any suggestions? Even something like a CB250 I guess would be ok.

I think a ZZR250.
You can't go wrong.
There's a million of them out there, so you can pick one up at a relatively good price (depending on condition of course) and parts are pretty easy to find.
Good luck wih your search.

An Across!
Should be comfortable for her and still plenty "capable" enough for when she gets a bit faster (it's bound to happen).
But most of all it has the boot where the fuel tank usually is... VERY VERY handy, esspecially for girls. She can chuck all her random stuff in there...
Yep, Across.

Yeah i'd agree with either of those. an across or a zzr250 would be good. the across would be a bit better for the boot value as well.

oh and r.e. cb250, i did my L's test on one, thought it was a very average bike then with next to zero experience (i could feel the vibrations even at those pottering-about speeds we did). I went back and did my P's test on one 6 months later, and fark me i was running int all kinds of "you-want-to-rev-me?-i-dont-think-so!!!!" issues after stepping off my el250 (cruiser bike based on the zzr250 engine, so it revved quite happily:twisted: )

the zzr250 was a pretty easy to ride bike from day one, heard similar things about the across too :-). But that's just me, some people may think the cb250 are great bikes, i just think she'll encounter problems just keeping up with traffic after she's gotten used to riding.

b.t.w. good on you for the conversion!!!!!

the zzr is quite upright, heaps more so than say a zx2.
and mine's for sale ;)
will be borrowing a camera tomorrow and putting a post up.

Thanks guys :D

Being a typical female (*ducks*) she has a heap of useless crap in her handbag that she will NOT leave home without  The Across would probably be better for her. Now we just have to shop around to find a good one for her, and in a girly colour too

We're visiting Melb next week, so I'll probably start there!

Cheers guys, thanks again

across  ewww :toimonster:

buy the zzr, better fuel range, easier to maintain and handles better.

Nah... The gpx 250 is the go... cheaper to buy and cheaper to fix if it gets dropped.. My misses had one for a couple of years and it took a beating... must run in the family..:-)

Benno
If you in Melb, have a look at Smek's zzr. It is in good nick and looked after from what i know. I'm sure he'll give you a members discount too.

I would prefer her to have a kawasaki. I had a ZX2C as a learner's bike. She's seen the boot space on the across and decided that it's for her though. You know what women are like, once they've decided on something...

tell her the downside is that she'll have to stop for fuel more often, which limits trips.
Any across owner will verify the tiny fuel tank is a pain in the ass.
And they handle like a piece of wood, a extremely slow ugly one.

Good on her for choosing the Across.
They've got a bit of a "pfft, that's not a real bike" image, thanks to the boot. But they are a great bike. Comparing ZZR, Across, etc is rider skill all the way, the performance differences are just so small.

I'll be on the OPH run next Sunday with my Across, in extremely bad condition and I know I wont be too far behind.

Got a few for sale atm as the latest generation upgrade :D

lol

i'd say the amount of storage space on a zzr is a bit small. it would be better if the back part wasn't blocked off so much.

the one thing the across has going for it is the storage space. it sucks in every other way :)

12L fuel tank? filling up every 200kms is just plain annoying.

the zzr looks nicer too, and at least it can chuck a wheelie :)

the gpx is very similar to the zzr, not sure what the storage space is like though.

good luck with whatever bike u get :D
