After 10 years I must do something with my bike. Life/job situation changed unfortunately, and a motorbike becomes luxury item

.
The bike is 2000 zx6r which had done 115,000km. We've had really great times!
http://ninjazx6r.blogspot.com.au/2005/10/barry-sheen-ride.html1) If I sell it, I would get very little money;
2) Or do I just keep it and don't pay rego. When situation gets better in few months/years time I can re-register it.
What would you do

Unless you are desperate for the coin Andy, just hang onto it and re register it when you can afford to. Sorry to hear things are a bit tough. I hope it's only short term and you're back on your feet fast.

Agreed. Take the time to strip it & clean it and be ready once things bounce back.
Sorry to hear mate, hope stuff works out real soon

Think I'll do that. It might keep me occupied cleaning and polishing it at least

While not in really desperate situation I do like to one day be back in the mood where weekly rides to reefton can be enjoyed!!

I've decided not to rego my ZXR for the same reasons, it's never worth selling it as you'll regret it!

Yep hang on to it brother! I sold my R1 to pay for my wedding or engagement ring back in 06 then was bike less for a year or two and really missed them. So got a lil nsr150 blew it up in about 2 weeks. So got a cbr400 basket case built it up ride it daily for afew years then kids came along and found myself having to pick then up on the way home from work. So cbr parked in shed then rego lapsed..... Along came zx9r project track bike put cbr on market sold got track bike and rebuilt it. Now get to fang the 9R on the track more than I was riding the cbr.
Moral is hang onto what you've got in the toy department as it can be hard to get them back once there gone......

hi Andi
its a keeper in my opinion (but I am biased)
ps .. think I spotted you going the other way on it the other day in Moorabbin (or was it Cheltenham ?)
Fri Feb 13, 2015 10:55 pm
Thanks all, so yes I have kept it and the rego lapsed yesterday

... or is it

?
Gotta keep positive that one day I will be cruising Reefton again

I thin you are all correct... if I let it go now, I might never again have the justification to buy a bike !!!

Ian, yes I must have passed Moorabbin! I sometimes miss my old workplace (cochranes rd!) as they closed 6 months ago

Good news... I found a Job, starting in October
So... I need to do the RWC. Bought new discs and brake pads, but after the inspection there are some major works need to be done (headsteam and fork seals).. total of $900

+ registration + rego = ~2K. Very expensive for a bike with 130,000km on it.
So I thought ... what if I just buy another bike with lower km and sell this one for cheap (wrecker) would I be better off?
For example I can buy 2000 R6 (yikes!) with 50,000km on the dial for about $3500.
What do you think
Sat Sep 19, 2015 2:20 pm
Well things are moving fast and today I bought this

Some minor scratches but at $3.8k I think it's a fair value. 50K km, so less than half of my zx6r odo. Quick test ride and it seems all the mecahicalss are fine.
So I'm 'out of pocket' of about $1.8K but a 'younger' engine. And still have my old zx6r for cheap sale. I think it was not too bad of an idea (except that I ride a Yamaha?

)

... well done Andi re the job
(far from your old one? )
and the Yammy seems like a good deal (you seem to like 600cc bikes)

Thanks Ian. 'Unfortunately' the job is no longer in our beautiful suburb but South Melbourne.
That's why I need a bike because there's no parking and getting there by train/tram will be a real hassle.
I was pondering for 1L bike. I wish I could get that $4.5 zx10R crim in the FS section

. But in the end the wallet makes the vote
