The 3 Kwaka Riders

The Kwaka riders back then were the late Greg Hansford, Murray Sayle ( yes the one still working!! at Kawasaki Rydalmere) and the late Ron Toombs. I think Greg used to have 02.

these old pictures are just bloody fabulous. I am *pretty* sure that the photo where it looks like he is doing a 'stoppy' is nothing of the sort - I am sure it's Mick Grant at the Isle of Man, coming of Ballaugh Bridge......they got some serious air through that section ( and still do)...

That last photo is of the very rare SR1000 rode during the Swann Series and at some selected Aussie meetings during late 1979 through 1980. Some of my old REVS magazines have articles on this bike and the races it was entered into. Gregg Hansford rode it mostly, although I am sure that Warren Willing would have got a leg over once or twice

That is a great shot of Murray Sayle and Gregg Hansford at Oran Park, coming onto the front straight......this would have been around 1977 I think, when Team Kawaski was the strongest team in Oz racing. Ron Toombs was number 63 from memory.....Gregg was 02, RIP..

GREAT photos Che, take a bow mate, that stuff is just bloody gold !!

Ok,it was the late great gregg hansford(cant remember who the co rider was but i think it could have been Sayle) on a kawasaki KR1000 endurance racer shipped over from japan for the coca cola 800 endurance race held at Oran park.I think from memory the kwak was leading for most of the race but was sidelined with an ignition problem.

Currently looks like this:

Kawasaki A1R sold out of Brisk Sales in Brisbane. 1 of 2 or 3 sold from there I'm told. This is not the John Roos bike and has (again as I've been told) got some provenance that I'm not yet ready to claim without evidence. History prior to 1975 is not clear. May have been raced with a modified 350 A7 engine (which I also have). The A1R engine I have is a couple of # from the original engine (which I have parts of). Bike was sold to Jim Gee around 1972-1975 and picture I have of it around early 1990's show a half white / half green fairing.

I'd be real interested to talk to anyone who may have been involved with Brisk sales or Mayfairs in late 60's early 70's that might be able to shed light on this bike's history.

I now pretty much have everything to complete the build including original forks not shown in the picture. Trying to sort out some engine details.

Cheers
Ray

Ah yeah. Sorry to be a one time poster. Don't have any modern stuff. This was posted in response to a google search that led me to this page. Seemed there were some members here interested in this sort of stuff. Better still if anyone knows anything about this bike. I have info from several people, but everyone is getting old and we are looking back nearly 50 years after all. That dang well drives home how quickly things move on doesn't it.

Really like to get some info on this bike.

Cheers
Ray
