Cracked frame on zx10 13 model

Postby Natsev » Fri Jun 06, 2014 11:34 pm

Hi guys,

I hit a deer while riding through my local national park a few days ago, I was probably traveling at about 80kmh when I hit the deer front on, it was a significant impact but I managed to keep the bike upright.

I took my bike to my local repairer and he assessed the bike and believed he found a crack in the frame near my radiator mount, the insurance assessor came out and took some photo's and doesn't believe that the frame is cracked, he took the bike to another repairer for a second opinion and wrote me an email stating that after taking some high resolution photo's he is 100% satisfied that my frame is not cracked. The photo's bellow are not the high res ones he is talking about but were the original photo's he took, I will post up the other photo's when I get them, but does anyone have an opinion or some advice based on what's provided?
As there is two different repairers with two dif opinions should I be asking for an X-ray of the frame?ImageImageImageImage

Ouch,

Take your bike to an independent for assessment,

Laurie Alderton
Address: 2/ 10 Long St, Smithfield, NSW 2164
Fairfield-liverpool, Sydney Metro
Tel: (02) 96092889

Although he prefers the bike just be a fame only.

It does look a bit like a small crack... even though it is only a radiator mount lug, the bike will be written off if it is confirmed..!!!

Let me know how you go, but you need to get it assessed by another professional...

+1 On Laurie Alderton, he's been fixing bent & cracked motorbike parts for years. You can take the bike to him as a whole for an inspection but if any work needs to be done to it you will need to remove everyting other than the engine.
Even if Laurie says it's not a crack i would still look at getting the bike checked for straightness especially with such an impact, you could have bent forks or a twisted frame. Will cost around the $300-$500 range depending on work needed.

Thanks for the advice guys, I spoke to David today (Laurie's son)
And I will be taking the bike for them to have a look.
I also drove out to Parramatta today to look at the bike, and it appears that there is no crack in the frame, and that it was diagnosed incorrectly originally.
The repair bill has come too just over 7k including left and right upper and lower forks.
Hoping for no further damage but time will tell.
Thanks again for advice..
