..........Is that a Tranzac pipe on the Z. I had one on my Katana at the time, looks identical..........

Definitely a Premier pipe. I had one fitted to the Pearl for a couple of years around 83/84. Best pipe ever for a Z, really good sound and they made excellent power as well.

They were made in Dandenong, the bloke stopped making them in the early 90's due to lack of demand. A few of the Victorian Z Owners pressured him to get the old jigs out sometime in the late 90's and he knocked up a few more. Wish I had been in that order !!!

...........But I do know where is an old Prem hanging up in a workshop......

Many moons later I got Dennis Fagan in Gosford to make me up a,,, well half Stainless Prem to suit a Z750 I had. It was crisp,, as chips!!
This guy also knows his stuff and can make a masterpiece of piping.

I currently have the Foran Razorbacks on my Trumpy. Hand made at West Gosford, top quality, polished stainless steel and awesome sound.
Dennis has a Tumpy as well and once he established the look and sound he wanted for his own bike, he now sells the Razorbacks to Trumpy owners all over the world.

Dennis Foran is a legend exhaust builder - has been for many years. I met him once at a bike show at Parramatta Racecourse in the mid-80's. There were a few industry stands there etc - was a good gig, the big drawcard was this thing !!! I wonder how many punters here ever saw this monstrosity in the flesh. I heard it running but it was not ridden, still had some teething issues. This would have been around 1985 or 86 I think ??

I seen that bike in the flesh when I was 15 years old in his work shop in dubbo . My uncle was friends with him . It was two cylinders cut off a spit fire motor , 5 litres from memory . Back then he had problems with the rings , he ended up getting some made for it ( or made them him self).

yep - Lucky Kaiser. That bike was featured a few times in AMCN, I have that exact poster up in the ceiling of the 4th.

You are right about the motor - it was a 5l V-twin, cut from the end of a Spitfire V12. I think he used a 4-barrel Holley 650 but I can't remember what gearbox it used......bike looked awesome in the flesh.

Back in the days he was known for building Harleys so I wouldn't be surprised if it was a aftermarket harley gear box of some form ?

I remember The Merlin from the 80s and recall it was a pig to start so it didn't run too often. Being a 5ltr twin on NOS I don't think it ran a box as such but more a clutch as it was a straight line ride and didn't need gearing to get from 0 to frightening in no time flat. Not long afterwards everyone was slicing two pots of their V8s and stuffing them into frames.

Balanse , Love your Mk 2 Mate. Phantoms were the rubber to have on the Z1! Had Marzocchis on the back of mine. Owned it for four years. Went every where on it, but Not the donut ring on the mount! One Of The Best Bikes I Ever Owned!

I can tell you one thing dude , the NOS bottle as you seen was the fuel tank , the fuel tank as you see is/was just a cover for the carby !

I for one wouldn't like to through a leg over the thing!
