Gidday Folks,
New boy on the block here, so bare with me if this has been covered before.. I did do some searching through previous discussions but couldn't come up with an answer..
My ride is an 04 ZX10R, just coming up to 40,000 clicks and suddenly she refuses to rev out, big loss of power over 5 grand, still feels relatively normal off the line.. did the plugs last week in response and air filter, oil filter etc.. have always be done when required..
I've heard a rumour that these symptoms are usually the Coils (Coil Sticks).. so I plan to spend another weekend dismantling her so I can check the impedance on them..
Now it's question time..
Anyone had this issue ?.. or had these symptoms and found it was the coils ?.. or was it something else ?..
If it was the coils.. did you replace them with Stick Coils ?.. or is there a better solution / alternative, that is cheaper or possibly offers an upgrade in performance ?.
If not the coils, what else could it be ?..
There’s no reason why this should happen.. over night .. yeah she’s done a few K’s but I’ve treated her right and she’s always been kind in return.. there’s plenty of life left in her yet.
Any info would be greatly appreciated..
Mark.

Does it happen more when hot? You said it happened overnight, is that right?
The other common issue is clogged fuel pump which cause the bike to stop revving when it get to lean but usually he's worse as it gets hotter.

Hot or cold.. doesn't seem to matter.. and it did seem like it kicked in overnight.. you have those days when you chug along and don't ask for too much.. so it may have been progressive to some extent.. did a ride about a month back up into the hills and she was pulling fine then..
Possible fuel pump issue huh.. i must say, when i first notice she wasn't right, i thought I might have got a batch of dodgy fuel..
Thanks guys.. those coils aren't the cheapest parts to buy.. I don't imagine a fuel pump is either though.. anyway to check it ?.. certain voltage ?.. fuel pressure ?.. flow rate ?..

MickLC.. just read your post on the fuel pump issue, nothing quite as satisfying as a bit MacGyver action in the shed.
I'll check the flow rate on the prime.. mine squeals like a stuck rabbit on start up.. thought that was normal.

Partially block fuel tank breather maybe ?
Cheers,
