I have a loose rivnut (also called a nutsert) in the frame of my ZX7R project.... it's one of the two fuel tank forward mounting bolt rivnuts & is so loose that when I try & screw in the bolt it starts rotating the rivnut after only a thread or two.
I don't know how they installed (probably installed before the frame is welded up!) & am hoping there may be a special tool which could be used to clinch it tight in the frame again? Obviously there is no access to the underside of the rivnut.
Has anybody had any experience fixing these things?

They drill a hole and the rivnut works just like a pop rivit does, try and find a sheetmetal place that has the nutsert or rivnut tool and will either drill it out and replace it for you or try and clinch it again which might be the better option for starters.

I had to replace a bunch on my ZX12. I ended up buying a kit off ebay which came with new inserts and the riveting tool. It was heaps cheaper than buying one from a tool shop.
Old ones can be drilled out, with some of them I actually screwed an old bolt in and belted with a hammer and it came apart and could be removed.
