Hi there, just recently purchased a zx12 with 12 000km on the clock. The gearbox seems to require a real effort by foot while up- shifting and sometimes doesn't want to go into gear at all. Is it maybe me or has anyone else experienced the same problem. Cheers Steve.

Check clutch lever/cable adjustment- clutch drag, check shifter for adjustment, check operators foot, drive chain isnt too tight and maybe the oil is old or wrong type. etc. tried doing the throttle blip no clutch upshift?
i have never heard of it happening on a 12 before but it could be a bent shift fork or munched up drum in which case take it to a good mechanic for checks really soon before anything breaks.

A friend had a similar issue and turned out who she bought the bike from had put in the whole 5L container of oil in it. Check the oil level!

fuck me some people are nobs.
Russ - the 12's don't have any shifting issues under normal conditions.......maybe if the chain is too tight they will be hard to change gears but this is the same on every bike. I would be checking the gear linkage as well, some punters do weird things to the angle of the linkages and this can affect gear changes......

thanks guys. Bike has just been serviced but my mechanic only rode it around the block because it wasn't registered, and therefore wouldn't have picked up the problem. I think i might have to give him a call.
