'98 zx7r race suspension settings

Tue Jan 08, 2013 12:52 pm

Hi all,

ive done a search and cant find the info im after. Ive had a read of jonno's awesome write-up (viewtopic.php?f=21&t=24596) which will help me head in the right direction but im wondering if anyone has any sort of base figures that i can work off.

Back story:

Picked up a 98 zx7r for $500 off a mate with the idea to turn into a trackbike because the DRZSM is sssssslllllloooooooowwwwwwwww and the mrs's bmw is a tad too expensive to ditch down the track (plus its her daily ride).

im planning to swap fluid and do seals on the stock setup for the time being, so im after some base figures.

im 90kg's fully geared and i want to set it up as a pure track bike so:

Front/rear compression, rebound and preload settings?
What weight oil should i look at running?
any other tips/tricks i can do?

Cheers for any help.

If its the orig rear shock. it will be shagged so it will need a rebuild, but better still replace it with something better.
Raise the rear ride height by about 10 to 15mm and drop the triple clamps in the forks by about 5 to 10mm. They are quite heavy and stable so can take a fair bit geometry change to quicken the steering without getting twitchy.
The front preload adjuster is actually a ride height adjuster so if its not right you may want to change the fork springs. Probly worth getting the front rebuilt anyway and I believe there is a mod to change the adjuster to be a preload.?

yeah its the original but at this point i dont really want to replace it due to being unsure of how im actually going to go riding a sportsbike on a track as ive never done it before.

cheers for the tips, ill have a look into it when it gets closer to track time.
