Received a bulletin that there is a shortage of platelets over the new year period.
If you don't know, platelets have a fridge life of approx 5 days, with most people taking a five day holiday over the new year (29th to 4th) supply will be exceptionally short.
Roughly 75% of platelets donation are used for cancer patients, by providing a donation you could be allowing adult or child with cancer to spend new years at home. The generosity given by regular donors over xmas was greatly appreciated and the red cross would like to replicate the same effort over new year.
If you are a regular donor or considering donor, it would be greatly appreciated if you could provide a donation this monday 31st of december at a red cross centre.

What's the rules regarding drinking and donating? Going out for dinner tomorrow, won't be getting hammered only a couple of beers and wines but would hate to put myself off the list ... Would rather just not drink

A
few beverages is usually ok, turning up blotted or hung over; they will turn you away.
You run the risk of harming yourself with dehydration after giving blood following a night on the turps.

Check the link in the opening post, click on "I'm ready to donate" then "find a Donor centre" enter your post code and it will show you where and when you can donate

Need to watch what you say because blood donation scared the shit out of me and God decide to have a joke and I was diagnosed with a blood disorder that requires me to give blood every 3 or 4 months. It's an Anglo/Celtic disorder that means I'm the original Iron Man so Poms beware! Very North Country! I now have a valve in my vein that they connect to like an F1 car's fuel load - just joking but it seems like that.
Blood bank drives me crazy with their bureaucratic crap but if I accidentally ended up looking like a Vicroads TV advert then I'd love to use your blood donation thanks. So I need to give as well as receive.
P.S. Best 40 year old birthday present is a full medical check-up rather than the other safety necessities - Galfers, Ohlins etc....
