Well this all started for me earlier this year. Id trained for 7 months to get into a different section at work (highly selective) and
didnt get in. In doing this training I had gotten to 106kgs (a good 106kgs). If I had gotten this job, then from August onwards was
going to be very busy for me. But as It turned out the selection was in May and I didnt have anything to aim for, exercise wise, for the
rest of the year. My dad had been hassling me to do a longish distance triathlon for years now, so I entered the Port Macquarie Half Ironman.
Anyway I did another course with work that got me starting to lose the 106kgs. On the night I got home from this 3 week course, my then girlfriend
told me it was over and she was moving out and I cant come with her. To say that I was shattered was a massive under statement.
I was a little bit lost (well very lost) so I started swim training, as well as my usual road cycling and started doing 2 run sessions a week
and a plymetrics and power day at the gym.
Come October 28 I was 91kgs (I was aiming for 85kgs).
The triathlon consisted of the following:
- A 1.9km open water swim.
Wetsuits were allowed. Im not the greatest swimmer but I got through the swim in 39 minutes.
- a 90km ride. It was 2 x 45km laps. It followed the coast road at Port Macquarie then headed out to Laurieton
This took 2 hours 43 minutes which made it a shade under 34km/h average. I wasnt over the moon with this, but I was saving
my quads for the run as my previous training of coming from a hard bike ride to a run made my quads seize like crazy.
- a 21km run. This was 2 x 10.5km laps. This took me 1 hour 50 minutes.
My plan of saving my quadriceps on the bike worked, but due to the aero dynamic position of the triathlon bike I had, it put a strain
on my lower back, glutes and hamstrings. So my quads were fine. My mother timed my first lap which took me 48 minutes (for 10.5kms)
then my lower back, glutes, hamstrings and ITB's went on me and I did a 1 hour 2 minute second lap.
All up with transition times the course took me 5 hours 16 minutes.
Im told this is a great time for a first timer. My aim for next time is 4 hours 50 minutes.
Triathlons are an odd sport coming from my fitness background and the training goes against every fitness and training principle
Ive ever been taught. But it gives me something to aim at and helped me after my totally unforeseen relationship breakdown.

Good 2 hear your bouncing back mate...that natural high you get from intense excercise is pretty under rated by all that dont experience the endorphin kick in, helped me get thru a similar situ.. I was up in your neck off the woods competeing in the NSW surf life saving state titles @ swansea belmont the last couple of years..Think about joining & participating in SLSA it will certainly strengthen your aerobic threshold & impprove your swimming ninja..not 2 mention mrs right could be waiting for u on the beach

Lots of good clubs up your way

If its one of the selection courses im familar with ninja...plenty fail on the first attempt, most who are selected have had a previous attempt.. although ive paid off now.. I have worked in a training staff role. 106kgs is right up there for anyone too try & maintain elite levels of fitness at a little bit 2 heavy 4 extended periods of cardio & intensive training ..Good luck if you have another crack @ it..getting thru is preperation & conditioning...go again!

Mate sorry to hear about the lady issues, in a glass half full thought process...... Better now than in five-ten years with kids involved etc etc.
You'll bounce back there are good women out there.
On the triathlon...... That is absolutely Brillant well done that's a massive achievement. Even just getting your life back on track health wise is a blessing in disguise.
It is underplayed but me personally I actually believe if we didn't lead such a sedentary lifestyle the world would be a better place. One of the endorphins you release when exercising is the same one you release when doing drugs just a lot cheaper without all the repercussions. Lol

Have to disagree....... Women are everywhere and it's not too hard to find a good one with small feet (gets her closer to the kitchen sink)....
But farked if all that exercise and energy is worth those sort of distances, that's what bikes are for.......

very flat mate, the hills near perth are nothing, just a slight gradual incline wouldnt even know you were on em, but the wind is killer over here, lucky the first half of the lap was into the headwind so was below 30km/h av, but on the 2nd half of the lap was easy to sit above 40km/h without much trouble.
that sounds pretty sweet, alot of people going into the adventure triathlons, would be keen myself.

O
You're right. He just need's to check the garage. With all this excercise he's doing. I am sure she's just itching for him to take her out for a ride
