ZX12R Tyres

Wed Sep 19, 2012 6:25 pm

Hey guys, been M.I.A. for a while ....missus split after 22 years and the bikes went to, Anyway have got my hands on an 04 ZX12R and am just wondering what tyres everyone is putting on them ? Is it better to run a 190 or the standard 200, I'm guessing 55 height would sharpen things up ? I am looking to run something that will give me good klms and grip although I'm not out to be scratching. Was running pirelli strada's on my old Gixer...are they in the mix ?

Drop one profile size for the front and a 190 on the back.

You are the first person I have ever heard say that. I've never run them myself so I have no idea, but I have heard lots of people say they were rubbish. :?

What sort of riding? Lots of straight line stuff, commuting, touring, or lots of corners?

Go the Bridgestone s20's. Rossi rates them ;)

No track days, the occasional fast blast through the hills but mostly legal speed cruising, mix in the 1000klm run home once in a while.

You are gonna get a thousand different anwsers to this question.
I was in the same boat as you only 3 years ago. I hadnt ridden a bike for over 20 years, so I know what you are going through.
BT016 will do the job..
IMO stay away from PR3 thay are great in the wet & crap in the dry. [Again only my opinion]
Perilli Supercorsa pro,,[70% track day 30% road]
Metzler K3s [same as Perilli]
Bridgstone BT003RS, [ 70% track 30% road] Thats what I use..
Bridgstone BT 016, [ 30% track 70% road] I found them a great all rounder!!!
Dunlop, qualifier's,, {50/50 road & track] Same as BT003 ..
I have raced on the 003RS & found it cumming up a bit short, but for the road great!
This will all depend on how you ride, what you expect as far as wear, & if you intend on using the bike as a daily ride/commuter.. I use my bike as a sport tourer, so I dont care if the tyres dont last as long as others. I would rather have grip over long life. I you know what I mean??
Hope this helps..

Bridgestone 016s, Metzeler M5s and Pirelli Diablo Rosso & Angels all get a good wrap for sports tyres. I'd stay away from any track tyres like 003s and K3s for the road. I don't know much about touring tyres as I never run them.

My preference is the M5 for the ZRX as they work well on a heavy bike, so they would be a good choice for the 12. :kuda:

HTH.
