Track bike slicks

Postby 2010zx6r » Tue Jun 19, 2012 8:24 pm

I have had no experience with slicks at all I would like some opinions on what to look for or recommend.
I've got a full time track bike now so no need to use road tyres any longer.

Best advice I can give you is "pick a model and stick with it". On the ZX6R the Dunlops can cause chatter when they're new (hard carcass and etc...) it even happened to me. It doesn't happen to everyone and it's hard to pinpoint what causes it but the bike is chatter prone, so maybe choose something with a softer carcass (i.e. Pirelli).

What times are you doing.? A sticky set of road or treaded dot race tires may be a better option, will be cheaper and last longer.
Do you have warmers.?

Im still fairly new to it. Only done the 4 days so far. No tyre warmers yet.
On my road zx6r I used pirelli diablo rosso. I was thinking super corsa if not slicks. I don't want to get ahead of myself and my abilities.

Don't bother with slicks without warmers. They will destroy themselves and feel awful until they get enough heat into them with the warmers

If no warmers and still getting up to speed, not sure if you should use or bother with slicks, although I believe the Pirelli track day pro thing, or whatever there called, state you don't need warmers.
I'm not up on the latest sticky road tyres, but that would be my suggestion.
I tried the Bridgetone R10's at my last track day and there pretty good, very comparable to the cheaper slicks (not up there with Ntecs of course).. but there not that cheap either (and I'd use warmers on em.)...

Nope in NSW but can post.

I also have a set of brand new Dunlop 211 control tyre slicks here. 200 rear and 120 front. You can have them for $400 . I brought them for $520 last week and didn't need them.

You won't get slicks hot enough for them to work properly and you need the warmers for them. As the others said, go with sticky road tyre like a Dunlop Q2.

So don't even bother with slicks if I got tyre warmers?
