As the title suggests I've tried to get my ZXR to fire off the bike battery (as opposed to using the car one) and it refuses to fire! Has a caugh occasionally and two almighty backfires but won't run!
Plugs smelt of fuel when I took them out so I'm thinking it's a spark issue so I've got new plugs to put in and some oil etc to give it a service.
Hopefully that cures it!

plug leads on the right plugs ?

Hadn't changed it since it ran the other day!

hmmm - backfires are generally a symptom of bad timing. Plug leads on wrong plugs will cause this every time...
How rough was it running the other day when you got it started ? Could be a dud fuel pump relay ?

Have a short length of fuel line so will put a gravity feed onto the carbs and try to start it again with fresh plugs!

Mate does it start with a car battery and runs well?

It started with the car battery but didn't run too clever on it!
I'm gonna put new plugs into it tonight and see if that helps it start on its own battery. Still not sure about the fuel pump after what Gosling has said so gonna put the temporary tank onto the carbs as I said and see if that helps it too.
Will keep posting until it's running!
I will not be beaten!

SHE LLLIIIVVVEEESSS!!!!!
New plugs, oil and filters; fired on the first touch off it's own battery and ran well enough for a gentle ride up and down the road!
Success

+1, every misfire or non starter i've ever had on both 2 and 4 wheels has come down to champion plugs; and have actually lead to several 2 banger engine failures. and lets not talk about the misprinted heat range mistakes common on champions.

Yes they were NGK's but I've never had a problem with them!
Maybe go for iridium next time.
