The oil in the engine protects the "gears" when they are rotating.

That's right, no amount of oil will fix the catastrophic gearbox failure that bmw continue to keep quiet about. :-D

Perhaps the magnetic sump plug from S1000R gearboxes on oil changes is meant to look like, like the one featured below. :lol:
