No response. Get r10s you'll get 3 track days out of a set or a couple of thousand k's on the road.

On my recent track day, a certain instructor at Preston MCC followed me around on one of the sessions. Gve me some valuable tips and then in the pit area advised me that my lean angles were just about as much as the pilot powers can handle.

He firmly advised me to get something "better and stickier" than pilot powers which I have. I wonder what tyres he had in mind. My riding does not involve commuting at all now. I only do twisties and hopefully more track days.

I reckon the instructor is full of shit Vivek and your fucking delusional. :) The Powers will grip way past side stand lean angles. Once you get past that, then you can talk about more grip. I bet your not losing the front or back in the turns?? Then the grip is fine. learn to ride then start getting stickier tyres. Sticky tyres require sticky tyre speeds to get them into their operating range. You barely have the powers in that range now. When your starting to spin up the rear out of 12, then we can talk. Till then just by some normal sports road tyres of whatever brand floats your boat. Your not gunna exceed any of them. The instructor was stroking your ego mate. I'm telling it how it is!

LOL so to answer the question are the metzeler tyre ok or should i go with the dunlops or michelens considering what you said strika that i don't know how to handle the bike at full speed so won't be doing crazy leans etc at this stage of my riding life.

What metzeler tyres are on it, what is their condition, and how long have they been on there for?

BS, I wanna know how you came to that conclusion????

I'd be happy with 40 laps from a R10 med at the very best.

Grip is ok but wear had never been bridgestones strong suit

It wasn't meant to be scrutineered I was saying to Vivek dont bother listening to me get the super stickies because apparently q2's aren't grippy enough.

BS? Truth be told I thought Glen said to me he'd get the best part of another track day out of his set of hard R10s, and that's Glen riding his gumby, fair conclusion to think Vivek might get 3 days out of a set riding his roadie 6 well below Glens speed?

+ 1.... from what I have seen and heard at PI last month and EC last weekend, I won't be stocking up on the R10's in a hurry. However, I just fitted an R10 on the rear, so I'll see how it goes on the next couple of track days at EC. But I reckon i'll be back onto Rocky Mountain in the States and stocking up on the 003's. I find they have shit loads of grip and longevity.

Any of them will be fine. Metzler, Dunlop, Michelen, Bridgestone are all more capable than your riding unless you are very fast; and if you are that fast, then it won't matter because you will be comfortable with the tyres sliding around.

These topics amuse me a bit because someone like Russ will destroy a tyre in a few sessions while a yellow group rider will take 4 or 5 full days to wear the same type of tyre out. You need to consider the type of riding, the size of the rider and the bike they are going on before giving advice, but even then it won't matter for the majority, as realistically most of us are not fast enough to use any of the available sport tyres to their potential.

What are people's opinions of Dunlop Sportsmax Q2?

Here's my thoughts:

Significantly heavier and sturdy than a pilot pure so doesn't quite tip in as easily and bum dyno reports a slight perceived loss of power from the 6, but I only really noticed it the first time I rode it, also don't seem to spin up as easily when gassed when leant.

Fine for 1:50s at the creek on a stock setup.

Lost the front and the rear in 3 at the same time but they both grabbed again. :)

They double perfectly as stable off-road tyres, and aircraft landing gear, as tested at approx 200km/hr between the exit of turn one, and the entry of turn 2.

Impossible for us mere mortals to get to the edge Vivek so don't buy them if you want street cred ;)

Tim, I would guess the Q2's would be capable of sub 1:40 around the creak with a capable rider. I think your slide at turn 3 was more to do with your body position than the tyres not coping with the speed. Also, I think your front tyre is like it is because you brake so hard and load up the front end so much. If you carry more speed into the corner, you won't put so much heat into it.

Fair enough then. Now there seems to be 2 types of powers with michelin. The one I have which is Pilot Power. And the other is Power Pure. I am assuming you mean I can stick to Pilot power and not the other?

I wouldn't get powers Vivek, may as well go for some nice sticky modern dual compound tyres like pures, q2s etc etc

Here ya go: :)
