RIP Simoncelli

Tue Oct 25, 2011 1:25 pm

Gresini have decide not to continue the rest of the year. This means they will not be at Valencia nor the test after that. This coincides with honda not testing their 1000cc last week.

Very sad news, I hope they retire No. 58 in respect.

There are doubts about Gresini continuing at all. San Carlo apparently sponsored them on their belief in Simoncelli, and now Aoyama moves to WSBK too.

Also:
Valentino Rossi's manager Davide Brivio has firmly rejected suggestions that the seven time MotoGP champion might retire following the tragic death of Marco Simoncelli in Sunday's Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang.

"You live more for 5 minutes going fast on a bike like that, than other people do in all of their life." - Marco Simoncelli"

Very sad to see him go, but he pinched the quote from The World's Fastest Indian

Tom: Aren't you scared you'll kill yourself if you crash?
Burt Munro: No... You live more in five minutes on a bike like this going flat out than some people live in a lifetime.

Update: http://www.motogp.com/en/news/2011/gresini+team+to+attend+valencia+gp

MotoGP.com wrote:The Italian team will assemble its usual box at the Ricardo Tormo circuit in Valencia, and will display the bike holding number 58 in tribute to rider Marco Simoncelli. The team has yet to decide if Hiroshi Aoyama and the Moto2 riders will compete in the final GP of the season.

As preparations continue for the funeral of the late rider Marco Simoncelli continue (see additional information here), the San Carlo Honda Gresini team confirmed on Tuesday its intention to attend the Gran Premio Generali de la Comunitat Valenciana, where the MotoGP community is planning a tribute in memory of the late Italian rider who died in Malaysia.

Team sources have ensured that the majority of the team’s members will travel to the Valencian circuit and the customary team box will be assembled, in which the Honda RC212V holding the number 58 will be present in tribute to their rider Marco Simoncelli.

Team owner Fausto Gresini has not yet decided if Hiroshi Aoyama and Moto2 riders Michele Pirro and Yuki Takahashi will take part in the Grand Prix. The team may make an announcement on Wednesday morning or might wait until after the funeral services on Thursday for Marco Simoncelli are held.

In a press release issued Tuesday, the Italian team thanked the countless messages of sympathy received since Sunday with a message that read: "Thanks for the love shown to Marco. The star of "Super Sic" will shine forever in heaven! From Marco’s family and the team, thank you."

Who pinched it from popular culture as I have heard that saying since I was a kid. Anyway, regardless of who "Originally" said it  It truly speaks volumes about his passion for what he did.

Kevin Schwantz wrote a nice piece which I read somewhere on the web about SIC and Rossi has also made comment too mirroring similiar sentiments. Both speaking of what a lovely guy he was and what an amazing family he has.

Schwantz commented that it was Vinales, The guy coming 2nd in the moto2 champ at the moment... forgotten his name.... ahhh there it is... Marc Marquez and SIC who were the next stars of MotoGP (Ie Rossi-esque personas). He will be missed by everyone. I had made comment previously that he was the next alien in my opinion who would make it to the top. In future I will keep my mouth shut... :(

I got this news, then about two hours later got the news of a mate of mine in intensive care, bike accident, ended up with no lid, head injuries, torn Aorta, Ribs, internal bleeding and a few other issues. Drilled holes in his head to relieve the pressure, having a CT done today to determine brain activity. If your are religious, please say a prayer for "The Pirate". He needs every one he can get at the moment. Bloody sad week! :(

Yeah, sad and it is, but it is all part of riding isn't it Billy? I and probably you, have lost a lot of good mates over the years from road, dirt or racing crashes. It won't stop me riding, just like Rossi said it wont stop him either. It's one of those things we just have to accept if we dance with the two wheeled devil. :x

Amen brother. It's heart breaking, it's scary, but it's our life, and specially a racer's life.

Word last night was pressure on the brain had dropped from a scale of 20 down to 3. They say they may start trying to repair other things today or tomorrow, which tells me they think he has a chance. Fingers crossed. Thanks for the wellwishes everyone.

Good news 8)

Hope he pulls through ok!!

It's a dangerous hobby/sport/job riding and racing bikes. It just drives home the need to be safe and aware of your surrounding at all times!
