Help on polishing alloy parts

I am doing some polishing on some alloy parts and would like any suggestions on what people have used in the past and how they have done it,what tools etc etc, best polish people have found to get the best mirrored results and so on and so on,all suggestions welcome.

Solvol Autosol and a shit load of elbow grease

lots of wet rub and patience is the go.

i've dona bit of polishing on my cars before - ie, for a rocker cover, start with 400 wet n dry, go to 800, 1200, then autosol


takes forever, and you have to keep maintaining it (very hard to paint a clear coat over it because the paint has nothing to stick to) but it's worth the effor tif you keep it that way...

Here's where i am at so far.
Supercheap sell this Yellow tin with cotton waste soaked in a very ordinary polish. Well anyway i poured Liquid Autosol in it n use that for my quick rim polishes when i was the bikes. It gives a smoked shine which looks OK.......
But even better, With Strutto's help I finally got my compressor (12 Cubic foot) working . Bunnings sell 2 Polishing kits for hand held drills I bought the dearer one $27 with 2 smaller polishing wheels, whacked in the die grinder n use the polish cakes provided in the kit & Wahlah
2 hours later "Tiggr's" Rims look nearly as good as just professionally done. Bloody brilliant investment in time n money. Oh as an aside i bought a piece of High tensile 12mm rod poke it through the front axle n i now have a race stand that will lift either end. Steel cost $4.

PS be ineterested if anyone has found some even better products/ideas to help with stuff as I'm polishing the fzzrs rims soon.

Anyone seriously interested should go and get what the
polishers use..a big buff cloth wheel and a mixtures of pastes
(industrial supply places sell the stuff)
the buffing wheels you can buy cheap at bunnings or better at Alltools
Blackwoods Coventrys etc
and they mount either on a drill (need a big one..at least 500W)
or the end of the bench grinder
and you get a great result...

Thanks for all the tips guys,I have started on the back wheel and so far its looking great,I firstly used a cutting compound polisher to get out all the scratches and scuff marks and it worked really well,next stage of course is to start polishing for show and shine,with the cutting compound polisher came a different finishing tool but i think i will stick with the all mighty autosol as i have never seen a bad result from this product(use what you know i beleive).I will let you all know how it turns out and post some pics when its finished which might take a while as others said,alot of elbow grease for this job people.
