ZZR 250 Carbs

Postby Ticketyman » Sun Sep 11, 2011 6:42 pm

Ok the wife's ZZR is playing up. Hard to start, doesn't want to idle. When I give it a rev at warm up and release the throttle it still holds the revs for a about 3-4 seconds then drops slowly and stalls. I am pretty sure this is carb related just wanted to know if any one can point me in a direction, i.e. good overall clean, blocked jets, water, float levels etc.

Cheers

I would start by having a stiff shot of Jim Beam. Before tearing into the carbs I would check The compression. If that is ok the next step would be to check for a vacuum leak. You can check for a vacuum leak by spraying around the obvious points with wd40 or something similar that will show up as smoke in the exhaust if it is burned. If all this is ok then check the carbs, oh and have a beer..

Beer goes without saying, followed by a rumbo.

from memory, hanging after a rev is an indication of lean, usual in those as the carbs wear around the throttle shafts. usually a throw away item, but if you're really keen, they can be rebushed. from a wrecker they are $50 items anyway

when it idles at 50rpm (really really low, you know what i mean) means too rich btw.
