I hear you STRIKA, i start to get bored and then move em on, BUT i am diversifying a bit, when i get bored with it i start to think of mods to do, i am trying to stick with something i can get some benefit as apposed to something i can just see.. you guys definately seem to have a better handle on these bikes handling and suspension... my background is purely dirt and cars...cars for years wtih Pedders/rallying/2 litre tourers...all suspension no driving, bikes is purely mx experience but loss of one eye meant timing jumps or dodging trees was a problem so changed to road then some track days, fast enough but DANGEROUS when overtaking because of EYE, for me and them, so road only and only country roads at that. Suspension-wise on smoother surfaces i am reasonably happy, i mean its big and heavy but it steers ok for what it is, its nothing like my blade or 1098 was, hell, its not even like my SP1 was BUT ITS FUN,FUN,FUN and not costing a lot, its just not what i want on bumps, braking bumps, smaller bumps mid corner (slower speed corners but knee on ground)etc, the big bumps on sweepers and in straight line are reasonable (high speed stuff). GOOD suspension is what i want, We shall see how i go with it, if i was 100% sure a particular mod would get the forks where i want them i would stump up the cash, trouble is its an experiment and can be $$$$, my gut feeling would be new cartridges, something like Ohlin or Maxton etc but even they will need mods for me unless they guesstimate it perfect the first time etc, I am going to change the oil in the forks using 2.5wt just to make sure they actuall got the oil they were supposed to with the revalve, after that i will speak with Terry H to discuss further.

I agree with the choppy high speed damping the forks are still wanting a little. But with the low speed I think its pretty good.
Thanks Sman, yes could be i am expecting a lot, but i dont think so, my other rocket is a modified Z900, has ikons, racetech valves/springs, tapered head bearings, string lined wheels and 100 rear wheel horsepower, now that is handling! In the end they are just toys, but when you see a Katana punted around E.C. in under a minute forty you realize they can be made VERY GOOD,not like modern sports bikes, but a lot better than stock, i guess i am just fussy AND still a racer at heart BUT i dont want full sports type bike that i cant use to its potential, i still manage to show my mates (on their sports bikes!) a clean pair of heels on teh Putty though, even the twisties on the northern end...they really do need to get it together better. I reckon a Rex with REALLY good suspenders would suit rough country roads no end, killer engine (relatively speaking!), decent brakes, just needs some gun suspenders.
Either way Gentlemen this has been a REALLY enjoyable discussion. SHOCKS will be either Gazi or Ohlins BUT only after i get the forks working a lot better or IF i can get them working a lot better. Now trying each combo, along with oil weights and heights, different preload etc is typical MX testing which is what i know very well, you can oftern come up with good setups without spending a lot of $$$, it just takes time and patience and be prepared to do some things twice. WHAT DO you guys think of a complete cartridge swap, there are some U.S.A made and U.K made ones as well as the Ohlins that whilst expensive are not too rediculous with A.U.D. at the moment?????!!!!!?????

Pete Byers was doing sub 1;40's on his ZRX1100 back in 2000/2001 when he won the Nakedbike Championship

A.E............mmm.....reading your posts is starting make me think I may know you!!!!!!!!!!

A NSW boy, with one eye, who can steer and had a Ducati!!!!!!!!! Wouldn't happen to work in the motor industry by chance???? Wouldn't have had something to to with the Subaru network at some point would you?????????????

If you are a tall, skinny (he was 6 years ago) mid to late 40's guy who worked in the trade and rode a 1098. If that's you, do you remember a really nice guy you met who trained all the Subaru staff???? Have I got the right guy??? There are not too many one eyed 1098 riding guys who can steer a bit good in NSW!!!!!!

Just to clarify one point A.E. and I hope I am not patronising you, but reading you post made me want to clarify this point.
WHen I am speaking of high and low speed damping, be it compression or rebound, I am not speaking of bike speed. ie; I am not saying low speed is under 60kph and high speed is 160kph. What I am refering to, is the speed with which the suspension has to reast. here is an example. When you come into the braking area and start applying the front brakes, it is the "LOW SPEED COMPRESSION" circuit which controls the fork dive. Now, if we were coming into the braking area, had applied the brakes and the front had compressed a little and THEN we hit a SHARP bump, the forks need to react to that sharp bump quickly. This is the High speed compression circuit.
Low speed covers smaller undulations and braking forces. Hope that makes sense????

Geffugged Ya Cahn!!!
What makes you say that Glen?????
I actually have been a little grumpy of late

. You may notice my patience levels with idiots has fallen and I am more likely to tell it how it is at the moment, than sugar coat it. There are a number of reasons, my health and the constant pain is one reason. I don't want to go into the rest of it........................

Go and give Ozkar a big cuddle, that'll sort you out you big marshmallow.

Ozkar gave me lots of cuddles this morning before I left for work

, then again when I dropped the dry cleaning home an hour ago

. He's growing so big now. Can't fit under the chairs anymore and much to his disgust, can't curl up on your lap when sitting at the outside table like he used to. He still tries, but then can't get comfortable, so gives up and lays on his mat!!!!
He passed his obedience exams on Sunday too!!!! Mind you, fuckign everything they got us to teach him, we already had him doing it prior to going to puppy school.

Yes he apparently was, bet he is still FAST too. I was lucky enough to have him follow/lead and CARVE ME UP at a track day once, me on SP1, still with two functioning peepers, him on THAT ZRX, he was obviously faster and nice to watch up close on it, he is the reason i now have one! WHO did his suspension? Especially the forks?

STRIKA,STRIKA,STRIKA....HMMMM....its gotta be Marty T. the human dynamo!?!?
Mate i do understand what you mean re high/low shaft speeds versus road speeds, my reckoning is too little high speed compression and too much high speed rebound, bottoms too easily on the short sharp hits and doesnt extend quick enough if riding similar raised sharp hits in corners. Less rebound improves it but then mucks up the wallowing again!
