I just went out and did it... assuming I was doing it correctly, everything seems smooth.

Is this to test the steering head bearings?

I bet that ain't the original speedo! ......15000 & the rest..

Is there a reason for this? Do you know if it's more of a case when using stock discs?

Also check the overflow bottle(plastic bottle behind RHS fairing) as they tend to crack at the base. Is there radiator coolant in there ?

I got to have a good look at that the other day after the cap went walkabout. The bottle is fine but it beats me what happened to the cap!

Re: the overflow bottle. If it does crack, buy new from Kawasaki. After replacing mine twice with bottles from wreckers I found out OEM ones cost only $10 more and the plastic is new, not having already been subjected to engine heat and less likely to crack easily

Mine as well, at 15,000klms it should ride like a new bike .......
and it should read KAWASAKI's have a reputation for warped disc's.....

If the front rotors are warped, then they may only shudder when hot, so spinning the wheel statically while cold may not replicate the warp. Either way, if the rotors are not lipped I would have them re flattened. The when you reinstall them, crush the spring washers slightly with a clamp or similiar. Not too much that they rattle, but enough to allow a little more movement. It reduces warpage.

The cracking as you pull up, is most likely just a little front pad movement. The 750 P's with the 6 potters did that. I doubt it's the steering head bearings.

I know my old Daytona 955i used to have a cracking feeling when I stopped too, but it wasn't the bearings.

The bike is off to Brighton Kawasaki on Saturday, so I'll see how that goes.

I picked the bike up this morning and the news is pretty good!

Head stem bearings are fine.
Speedo mounts are fixed, although the speedo reading is still out.
Discs are of a roadworthy thickness, but are warped.

All in all, they said it's a good bike and I shouldn't have any dramas with it. Time to go shopping for some discs I think!

another thing with the brakes if the bike has been sitting for some time it maybe a good idea to blow the pistons and replace the seals and compleatly change all the brake fluid front and rear the seals do perish this is usualy one of the first things i do after buying a used bike if you are replacing rotors do this at the same time
