Time for a change (Dutchy's ZX7R )

Mounted the radiator back on today. Had a look at where certain parts of the loom would travel and re-attached a couple of the connections to the horn, fan, and temp gauge sender. Started to look at the indicator/headlight loom to plan how I can lay it out to keep everything simple, unclutered, and neat. I'm trying to sort it out so i'm not friggin around shortening the loom but it's difficult to do while i'm still waiting for some bits to come.

The more of the old loom that I can tuck away the better. Now that everything is going to be a little more exposed the main objective is to hide as much as possible. Hopefully I can get my hands on everything I need this week so that I can spend all day Saturday putting it together.

Fingers crossed.

Spent the last two days hard at it. A mate came over to spend the day assisting and drinking my beer. Actually realy got a fair bit done. The new risers and handelbars are mounted and the heated grips are also installed. The new chinese levers have been checked and put on. Bar end mirros also installed. The front end wiring has been shortened a bit and is ready to be tucked away.

The indicators are still being pesky and I might end up craking the shit and just re-wiring the whole lot to accomidate the independant warning lights. I did a mock rigging of the speedo and all the lights seem to opertate as they should but that will all be checked again when the time comes to actually properly install it.

It's been pretty fun so far and is starting to take shape. I'm getting excited.

Faaaaaarrk!!!

I've been taking some here and there during the course of the build but when I came in last night to post some up I found that there was actually no memory card in the camera.

My dear wife had taken the card out a day earlier to get some pics printed from Hardly Normal and didn't return it. My camera still acts like its taking pictures but was obviously saving nothing.

And just because I don't think i've used enough "angry" emoticons yet

The radiator overflow is just temporarily mounted with zip ties for now so I could start it up. I'll be adding some sort of bracket off the radiator to mount it properly and maybe tuck it further away. Might not be keeping the bottle anyway.

You may have been taking pictures to the camera's internal memory if there is one, and you may only be able to transfer them onto the computer if you take the memory card out so that the only memory accessible is the camera's internal stuff. Give that a go if there's stuff there you might want? It's happened to me before.



Also, how does the bar clamp attach to the top triple?

I'd be devistated if it was banged up It's just protective plastic. It'll come off when it's all finished.

Negative on the internal memory. It's a digital slr so i'm guessing it just takes the sample pics for some reason.

As for the risers, the pictures that I haven't taken show the process for attaching where a friend helped me make up a nice template to measure and mark off a couple of holes. I made sure to buy risers that attached with a single large bolt instead of two smaller ones that way it would attach to the yoke without having the supports underneath getting in the way. Bolts go through and attach the risers, and locked them into place with a little bit of thread lock to prevent any incident.

Either that or zip ties and gaffer tape.......see if you can tell.

Been pretty busy lately. I haven't even been able to visit the forum too much to look around at whats going on

Here's the update. I've spent alot of time trying to clean up the loom at the front and finally made a little bit of progress. I got to the stage where it was time to wire the new gauges. Originally I was going to cut some sort of metal plate to make a simple dash board sort of thing but I happened to be in auto barn when I spotted some cheal gauge holders in the bargin bin. They were terrible, but it gave me the idea to look and see if there were any others that might be appropriate. I found two nice "drift" branded holders and remembered that there were already two holes drilled and tapped into the top yoke for the old fluid holders that they could be attached to. Score.

After i'd sorted this out I started to prep the wiring to attach the gauges. I wired them up and after a little bit of fiddling got them up and running and from what I can tell so far they are working correctly. Both of them light up well enough and I think they look the goods.

So now everything is pretty much wired but i'm having trouble actually getting the bike up and running I'll be putting that out to another thread though.
