2 piece leather suit advice

Tue Apr 05, 2011 9:17 pm

Hi people,

In the market for a decent leather suit for sunday rides. I currently have a 2 piece RST textile and it works great on everyday commute, but need something leather for twisty rides.

I came across a Joe rocket 2 piece suit here -> http://www.bikegearwarehouse.com.au/mot ... Piece-Suit

My question to the wise people here are :

1. Has anyone owned this particular Joe Rocket suit? Would you recommend it?

2. Is this a good price?

3. Do you know of any other decent offers online or in a store in Vic?

Cheers! :kuda:

The price is good mate but alot of people I know have had some bad Joe Rocket experiences. Not me personally.

I know actions Online store has some Berik stuff for sale atm for about $800 plus $25 delivery

Myself I just bought a Teknic Accelerator suit, Kangaroo leather for $870 from the states. Much cheaper then anywhere here as they go for almost triple that here.

I have a Joe Rocket GPX suit, which is great, I have crashed in it with no holes or burst stitching and that was at the track so speeds were high. However it's a 2005 model and people claim the quality is not the same on later stuff.

the places to look are AMX
http://www.amxoutlets.com/
and the peter stevens clearance stuff which is now upstairs in the elizabeth st store
and the ferntreegully store (which is probably a bit far from you).
really need to try leathers on.
I've got the joe rocket kawasaki leathers and they seem fine.

I've had the GPX Suit for 3 years and had minor issues with the Zippers. The one to Zip the jacket and pants together needed to be replaced as the platic end boke off and it unzipped as I zipped it up :( Two other zippers worked ok, but the stiching holding them in came away, no biggy really. Crash tested on a low side and roll on the bitumen at EC. Held up pretty good although a couple of inches of stiching came away on the left shoulder (initial impact). Again no biggy really. Leather feels a lot heavier and thicker than the newer model Joe Rocket Speedmater suit...

Opinion... OK for the money, but for not much more you can get a better suit....

My advice would be to go to ALL the stores and try All the different brands on (comfort comes ahead of cost) and then save a few dollars buying online.

When I was researching leathers late last year, the price which Peter Stevens at Ferntree Gully did, made it worthwhile buying a set of Alpine Stars. It was like $200 difference, maybe less, between the cheaper brands, like JR, Shift, etc., to the Astars.

I must say, I am glad I spent the extra coin as the fit and comfort are miles ahead with the Alpine Stars in comparison to the other brands I tried. I even tried Dianese, but felt more comfy in the A.Stars.

Vivek, leathers are something you can keep for 5, 10 even 20 years. So if you buy plain colours fashion won't force a change in two or three years either.

Would be better if you turned up to inner west latte drinks on a bike in them for a change

+1 to all that. I work in town and wander through PS every so often and they usually have alpinestars suits at good prices.

Nice. THanks for your inputs! :D

I looked at a Dainese online at kneedraggers.com
Here is the link -> http://www.kneedraggers.com/product/664 ... -Two-Piece . $899 for cowhide leather 2 piece suit. 1.2 mm - 1.4mm leather etc . But the shipping to Australia is $119

I am tossing up between this and Astars SP-1 two piece suit that I tried at Peter stevens city store. The price there was $900 for the suit.

Is there much difference between Dainese and Astars quality wise? Also, I know my size is 48. Is it recommended to try first or is it okay to buy online? Anyone had a surprise in size and fitting when ordering online?

Cheers
