Welcome and nice ride. :kuda: I think $280 is a bit steep for the first service since they don't even change the oil, but just check everything over and make sure nothing has come loose. We had them change the oil and filter on my wife's ZX10's first service last year and it was still cheaper than that from our local Kawasaki dealer. Where in NSW are you?

shesus my first service on the 6 was only $120

Im in the Hunter Valley...Newcastle was where I pruchased the bike ...picked her up on the Monday...booked her in for the 1000k's the following Monday...when we went to drop her off was quoted $280 for this 1st service....can you imagine my shock  I just spent $16000 last week & they would not even consider a discount. The hubby rides a '10 GSXR750...his 1st service $150 local, the youngest child rides a '11 DRZ400 is 1st service $124. I took the bike back home! Hubby has done an oil/filter change & full check over for me...The Zed will go into our regular mechanic & get the full system, PCV & dyno...(& a minor service with stamp ) as soon as customs releases my Akrapovic in the next week or 2 :P
Go Newcastle for great aftercare

Did I mention what an awesome bike the Zed is...just home from a weekend away...sooo much fun to ride :)

Oh yes...wweighed up the pros & cons on just about every mid sized bike out there.
I wanted a little more power than the VTR had, a more nimble steering/ride ..something for play..something for long trips. There is a huge hole in the market for bikes like this that are not full on sports bikes :)
It came down to the Z1000 & the Cb1000R til we found out the CB has less torque & hp than the storm :S
The faired Ninja 1000 did tick all the boxes too..but for me way to UGLY !!!

Horny bike. Nice pick up. Nelso, I thought the first service was specifically for the oil change? They use a special, thin oil for the first 1000 to get out the tiny metal particles and it comes out grey? But everyone I know works a free first service into the deal when buying. Especially when you know it's only going to be 7 days away. Honestly, unless the bike was super special and backordered, I wouldn't get the thing with out first service as it is just an inspection and oil change... So far as I am aware. Welcome welcome :kuda: :kuda:

You have a point there on the first service  ...... the other two sound about right price wise.... did you voice your opinion with Newcastle K?

I did.....they came up with all manner of reasons why it would take so long to do & cost so much....we asked for a discount, but they still stood firm on the 1st service price :(

Kinda sux that you spend $16000 on a bike ....then 2 weeks later , the dealership still wants to screw you over with service costs.....such is the bike industry in this country :(

Welcome aboard!

As to the first service, they often use mineral only oil for the first couple of changes to help the engine bed in. Also the first service is also often where they give the bike a once over and nip any loose bolts up, etc. There might be a couple of other things they do, but there's nothing too substantial about what they do at the first service.

Thanks for the welcomes :D

Woohoo.... I finally have all my bits from O/S...so the Zed is now booked in Monday week to have her Akra system, pcv & a dyno done  mwhahaha I will have noise !!

natty .... I'm curious about your choice of GPS ( the Aldi GoCruise, if I'm not mistaken ). You've spent lots of $$$$ on quality bike bits, and fit a 3rd rate GPS ?

And, yes I have experienced one....

Thats an easy one....I only need it to find an address of a unkown motel etc when we are away on trips... or to get us as quickly thru a city as possible ...so we can get on with riding on fun roads :)
Part of the fun of exploring new places is taking wrong turns....never know what awesome bits of roads you might just stumble upon

I brought this a while back & had it on my old bike...never found fault with it for the cheap price :)
