KSRC Charity Drive - Level of Interest?

Postby gray_rm » Fri Apr 29, 2005 10:05 am

Fellow KSRCers,

I've been approached by a charity in NSW that looks after autistic kids to see if we'd do a bike 'run' on their behalf - can I get a quick level of interest?

I imagine we'd do this run in Spring in NSW, where a bunch of us would go for a ride and for each corner we do (or km or whatever), we get sponsored some amount - with the money going to this charity.

I am happy to make all the arrangements (with some help  ). I'd be asking all my IT contacts to pay up for me ;-)

What do you think? Gives us all a good excuse to go for a ride, help some kids, gets the KSRC name out there (press will be involved) and earn us all brownie points?

I know all you guys are softies at heart, and it's for a great cause - autism is a very overlooked illness; nearly 3 in 100 kids are affected, the costs of therapy is around $25,000 per year and there is NO Government support

Thanks!
Richard

Why restrict it.....get all the states involved and really raise some cash.

Sounds like a good idea and a good cause.

That's a great idea PB...
The charity is incorporate in NSW, but if we got other states involved it'd be fabulous!!
This could be fun!

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. Some kind of high powered mutant never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

My mum worked as an autism career for most of the time I was growing up, so yep, I'm definitely in.
I'll tell her about it and see who else she can get snagged up.

Top stuff mate :D

This is great! I've spoken to Ian Rogerson (those of you who are old enough will remember him on Triple J) and he's going to publicise this widely on ABC.
Inter-state support is fantastic, and the broadcasts will go interstate now as well!
I will be in the US next week - but keep the comments coming, and when I return I'll start planning the event.
Any input on the event - preferable ride areas, dates etc - all ideas welcome.
I'm working with the charity convenors - they'll arrange all the publicity, signage, and stuff - we just need to bring bikes and and appetite for getting sponsors!
Thanks,
Richard

wot a stellar idea!!
heres my idea...
KSRC organises in every state a ride, with ppl getting sponsorship, anyone can come (the more bikes, the more $$)...maybe like the breast cancer ride?? we all meet sumwhere, pay a small fee & get a badge/pin/ribbon or sumthin to say we r part of it..that way we get coverage, $$ for a cause, and have fun.....

I'd be in, though I'm not sure any one would pay me to ride ....

... maybe if we get enough money together we can organise to get Neka to fall off instead, I'd pay to see that myself :D
