Sprockets

Postby mercho » Sat Jan 15, 2011 5:23 pm

Hey Guys,

Recently converted the stock chain and sprockets on my 99 R6 to a 520 kit, 14/44, and was wanting some advice.

Sprockets confuse the hell out of me so I wanted to see what you guys think. Looking for a better set up at WP, while i did notice a slight improvement in acceleration, it wasn't much, and at the end of the straight i was close to redline in 4th gear, so there is obviously a little bit there to play with? :?:

Just wondering what some of you guys with 600's run at WP, and if you have any suggestions? Im thinking my current set up would be better suited for EC?

THanks, in advance! :kuda:
Cheers,
Brad

I dont think anyone gets to the top of the gear box at WP straight.

I have the shift light flashing at me in 4th gear by the time I need to back off for turn 1. Thats on a 1000 but

i get to 6th,,, briefly russ :P but im on a 400.

my change on the 400 from EC to WP (it may not help you at all) is 1 tooth down on the front, or effectivly 2-3 UP on the rear :) and it seems to be pretty well suited :)
anyone can go fast in a straight line,,,,

Generally a one tooth drop in the front makes 6th the same as 5th was.
The formula for determining speed in MPH is;
RPMxFSTxTire circumference in mm/PGRxgear ratioxRSTx26817.
RPM=RPM
FST=front sprocket teeth
Tire circumference in mm=whatever it is. a 190/50 ZR17 is 1975 mm
/=divided by
PGR=primary gear ratio
gear ratio=ratio in the gear you are in;1st 2nd etc.
RST=rear sprocket teeth
26817=the number to convert all this shit to mph.

This will tell you what the maximum speeds you are going to attain in each gear with a sprocket change. Good luck. Oh by the way if you do not have any way to measure your tire circumference 1975 will give you a close reference point.
