Indicator Stall & Globes Blowing

Postby fireyrob » Fri Sep 03, 2010 2:30 pm

Hey all

On the roadie I swapped the billboard tail for a fender eliminator ages ago. It came with smaller indicators which are still on the bike. When I indicate it stalls for a second before working and Im blowing globes fairly regularly.

On inspection the new globes are 23W whereas the stock one's are 10W (Yes they are 12V Im not that bad and thought meh they should just glow brighter). I suspect they are drawing more power and whatever part regulates the indicators aren't coping with the extra current needed? Does this sound right? If I have the bike off and listen it seems to vibrate whatever part it is quite alot for a full second and also the dash indicator light goes dull whilst it does this.

Ive had a look around and can get the smaller globe's in 10W in clear only (not the orange I need) from most car places as they stock Narva globes.

Is there anyway to paint the globes?
Ive heard there may be Silicon globe covers you can get to get them to the right colour? Anyone heard or used these before?

I was given a resistor to try to limit the current but all this does (it seems) is try to increase it and it stalls altogether.

Maybe like oldman I should just go have a Beam

How about leaving it to an expert
There is no torque wrench involved with tightening a lens cover is there

It sounds like the indicator relay (under the seat) ..swap it out for an electronic flasher relay ( it doesn't rely on resistance but provides a "timed" pulse of electrickery ;)
I don't suffer from insanity; I enjoy every minute of it.

You are drawing too much current. 23 watts is drawing almost 2 amps compared to your stock 10 watts drawing a little less than an amp, (I=P/E). Change the bulbs. And yes you should have a Jim Beam.

Awesome idea! Thanx Gav :D PITA that this size globe isnt available in 10W amber. But luckily I posted here whereas I know others wont ask questions on this site anymore but rather PM me for fear of ridicule despite legitimate questions!

Rob you should know that legitimate ridicule is reserved for the mechanically challenged, as for the amber lens dye, thats a fantastic suggestion Gav 8)
