New power pures

Postby oldman » Wed Aug 25, 2010 10:20 pm

My new tires came in yesterday and I had them mounted on my rims. They are really light, (not the colour you twit, the weight). I will give them a try today or tommorrow, as it was to late for a ride by the time I got them home. I will post an opinion after I break them in. They are very pretty and black and round, Jim time.

Before reading these comments keep in mind I am 65 years old this November, I ride a Z1000 with Race Tech suspension, full Muzzy exhaust, a tuned PCIII and I'm probably a shit motorcycle rider.
I took my Z out for a spin today to break in the new Michelin Power Pures, about 234 miles. They have drastically affected the steering, it is so much lighter it feels like a gnu bike. I went about 50 or so miles before I started to push and then ran it up to 160 MPH, (about 270 kph) and it was smoother and more controlled than I have experienced at that speed before. I then took it to some twisties and did some cornering and the tires were amazingly sticky compared to what I had been used to. The front and rear porpoising that I had with the old tires was gone and I had faster corner speed. They warmed up quick and gave confidence even before they were scrubbed.
I guess it remains to be seen what wet and cold weather riding will be like as the outside temp was 97 degrees F., (36 degrees C). It also remains to be seen what the mileage will be like, but so far I'm very pleased. They are the best tire I have had so far, (I've used Bridgestone BT012's, Avons and Continental sport and road attack). I would welcome any and all comments and wise cracks, although a wise crack from this group would be an oxymoron. Time to go to the garage and admire my tires and have a Jim and a brew.

Joel's got the pilot power 2ct's on his zx6r..he's getting great wear out of them ,being a commute he was looking for value. He had the BT023's and thinks the Michelins are better.

Just wondering how you would compare them to the Conti Sport Attacks?

As for traction i would have to try them side by side as it's been a couple of years since I used sport attacks on the rear. The wear on the sport attacks was costing to much. I had to replace the rear hoop about every 2,000 miles. I think the big difference, however would be the weight. The power pures are extremely light in comparison to any tire I have used in the past. This light weight is probably why I noticed such a difference in performance compared to the other tires I have used. Go to a dealer and ask her/him to show you a power pure front or rear and see how light it feels. This is part of a new technology that Michelin has developed. Enough one fingered typing, time for a Vikingfjord, (vodka) and a beer. :kuda:
