Does anyone know what speed you have to be caught doing to go to jail in QLD? Or is there even such a thing? Seems to be a lot of different opinions out there about this one, but only one of em can be right.

I think it really depends on who books you, I was caught doing a 101 in a 60 and the copper let me go with my bike however this was in May of 03 albeit with a $700 dollar fine.
But under hooning laws here in Qld the police can confiscate you bike/car for doing silly things on the road.
My friend who has a hotted up 1983 Commodore with some sort of ridiculous power plant had his confiscated for doing a burnout.

read todays paper
the plod recently had to chase a P Plater up the Hume
He was clocked by a radar in a Hiway Patrol car just north of Melbourne
at 189kmh (in a 100 zone

)
It took the Hiway Patrol car 14kmh to catch him
(just how fast was the Police car going???)
The P Plater got 18months loss of licence and a $700 fine
and did not go to gaol..
cheers

Ah yes, but what if you get caught doing 240 in a 80 zone.....
In victoria I'd be surprised if you didnt go to jail, or if they cops didnt shoot you

Don't know about Aus, but in UK only jail term I can remember for speeding was two guys that got clocked at over 150mph in a 70 limit. They spent 3 months inside.
The psss take was a few weeks after their court case a famous soccer player got caught 140mph while drunk and got a short ban and a fine.

My mate at work was caught doing 180 in 60 zone. Apparently one must to go to court for this kind of offence. He paid $2000 fine and $3000 for lawyer.
I think being in court everything is up to the judge ?
