I have a ZX9R C model rear shock that has been re-valved by Glenn Willing that I dont have a use for anymore if thats any help to anyone Make me an offer

Sorry about the delay fellas, if anyone's still interested - the ZXR L & ZX7R subframes will not directly interchange, the distance between the upper & lower mounts on the frame are about 40mm different.

I've fitted a P model shock now, just got to figure out where to relocate the battery and hang the assorted bits and bobs and I'm set

For the sake of future searchers, here's what I've found so far:-

Purpose: Replace the stock ZXR750 L model shock, since it's non-compression adjustable and because it was made about 20 years ago.

Options: ZX7R (P) shock, ZX10R (2002+) shock, ZX12R (2005+) shock. All of which offer full compression/rebound adjustability.

Details:

ZX7R (P) shock:

Fits right in between the linkages and the top mount clevis. How do I know? I fitted one. The remote canister will foul the battery box.

ZX10R (2002+) shock:

Has 10mm bolt holes, as opposed to the ZXR's 12mm bolt holes. Novel ideas using spacers have been suggested (12mm OD, 10mm ID) but the most common method is to drill out the two holes (top and bottom) to suit. Is 10mm shorter in overall length, so the ZXR top mount (and adjustable-ness) should be used. Most converters wind the height adjuster to the top of the range to compensate for the loss of length. I have not tried this (yet).

ZX12R (2005+) shock:

As above, same dimensions - 10mm shorter. Same 10mm bolt holes, which means they need to be drilled out. RedMonkey users say they're more suited to the ZXR's weight, but I've not tried it myself (yet). Apparently a ZX6R (10kg/mm) spring suits riders ~80kgs (which is scrawny lil me )

Linkages:

ZXR linkage will work, but gives a shorter overall rear height - hence the need to wind the height adjuster to full.

ZX10R/ZX12R linkages will also work, but are 10mm shorter - result being back to stock height. Advantage being grease nipple, and the luxury of having full height adjustability as before. May need hole drilling to suit. This, with the ZX10R/ZX12R shock gives best example *or so they say*. Haven't done it myself (yet).

Top clevis mount:

Use the ZXR one, so bolt fits and gives full adjustment.

SO...

Best option: ZX12R shock, ZX6R spring, ZX12R linkage.

Others are a compromise.

Battery box:

As all the replacement shocks listed have a piggy-back canister, the battery box will need 'modification'. Some say they massage the battery box metal support, others dremel it out. Not yet known, because to date I haven't fitted the battery box back yet. With the sideways mounted ZX10R canister/shock some say the bracket can be massaged. With the straight mounted ZX7R and ZX12R shock the battery box may need relocation. Don't know, haven't done it (yet).
