Glove Odor

Mon May 31, 2010 9:56 am

Had a quick search and cant seem to find anything... I bought a pair of winter waterproof gloves and during the last week in Sydney preceded to test them very will in my daily commute (Damn rain)
They are great except that they now after the countless soakings have a bit of an Odor and whenever I take them off my hands smell pretty bad.
Anyone got any tips on how to get rid of glove odor?

:vom: :vom:

Suggest put a bar of scented unused soap in them overnight ;)

Where are you putting them overnight? Do they get a chance to dry out? If they're waterproof and you're putting them under your jacket sleeves (to stop runoff going down your sleeves into your gloves) the only bit that should be getting wet is the outside?

eeeewwww that's dirty.

I got not advice other than might wanna try drying them out after rides when you get the chance.

Otherwise, spinal tap have a song called "Smell the glove" I think.

I left them on the bench to dry out each night but they normally don't dry out.....
I was riding in pouring rain for about an hour each day so they seemed to get pretty wet :(

I normally wear them over my jacket so will try wearing them under my jacket seems to be raining again today so I think it will be a wet ride home....

Another suggestion is large dishwashing gloves under the bike gloves, keeps yer hands dry & non scented ;)

Its the bacteria that stinks .. and because they dont fully dry out, the bacteria just multiplies and gets stinkier  . .

You need to WASH the gloves thoroughly, then put aside to DRY COMPLETELY - then make sure you dont get the insides wet again ;)

Im assuming they are textile gloves being water proof ... so I would just chuck em in the washing maching next time you are doing a socks n undies load  Might even work in the dishwasher :?

That should cure your STINKFIST issues :D

With the smell I reckon its bacteria growing. Dishwashing fluid and really hot water generally kills it but here's how I clean my gloves at work... Throw in some bleach, shake it round a bit, rinse then some dishwashing detergent with really hot water, leave for a couple of minutes then rinse again with really hot water... Should kill any bacteria and if you use the right detergent maybe give you that scented finish your hands desperately need?

To apply the sentiment of this song the advice would be go grow the bacteria more and more and not clean the gloves until the stench gets so strong it's unbearable, but you'll enjoy it because you're nose is being stimulated more!

I hope new album soon - they're on a "5 years between album" cycle.

Would you recommend chucking them in the washing machine?

Well I actually just ended up emailing DriRider for suggestions lets see what they say :)

Not that I could find.....
There were like a million bits of cardboard and paper with them but I looked through and couldn't really find anything....
