I wonder how many who have tried both the 180 and 190 tires have tried the exact same brand to make it a fair comparison. I would find it very hard to tell much difference between the two based on numbers. The 180/55/17 has a 4mm taller sidewall than a 190/50/17 so overall height change is so small, I don't think that would be noticable. As far as flatter because it's on a larger rim, well actually you have to look at the size rim the tire was intended to go on in the first place from the manufacturer. I believe both the 190 and 180 are spec'd off a 6 inch rim, so they are as flat or triangular as they are meant to be based on that rim size, if you change the rim, they will both either flatten out or get more rounded. As far as tread width, they are 10mm difference, or you could say the 190 is 5mm wider from center to edge. Again, pretty small number, and I don't think I could notice the difference. Based off the numbers and common sense thinking, I would say the 190 should allow you slightly greater lean angle capability because degree of the angle from center to the edge of the side wall has to be greater if the tire is 5mm wider from center and the sidewall is 4mm shorter. I am no expert so if someone can give me the science behind something opposite, please do. I always want to learn more!
