Changing the front light bulb on 06 GPX250

Postby crumpet1313 » Mon Apr 12, 2010 12:11 pm

Hey peoples

Yes its the useless mechanic again haha with obvious questions for you more experienced riders to answer :P

I have fixed the back light of my GPX250 so the back light now works , YIPPEEEE...

BUT

I need to fix the front light as well. It seems to get at the bulb I have to take off all the fairings etc to get to it? Is this right, or am I missing a easy solution somewhere? It seems the light is secured by the fairings..

This is very scary for me cause if i take it all off and cant get it back on, im gunna look like a dick infront of the misses hahahahah   .. which i already do casue i took off my front screen and now am finding it VERY hard to put back on hahahahaha

Cheers
Crummy :kuda: :D

have you checked the headlight fluid first to make sure it's not just low? :?

Nahhhh just messing with ya head  if you look in the back of where the headlight goes is there a cover for the back of the headlight? ... damn this is going to be hard to explain :? ... check your PM's I'll send ya a message :)

There's a thingy at the back of the light globe you turn counterclockwise to get the thingy out. Then that thingy has the globe attached... Remove globe, buy replacement (same type) and without touching the glass surface replace into the thingy and reverse process to reattach the thingy 8) Does that help?

either drill a hole through it or pour energy drink in there!!!

Just remember the guy on the youtube video only took the front fairings/headlamp off to give you a better view. It might take a bit of feeling around but it should be able to be done without removing them.......right???

Net in my experience. I have big man hands, and didnt stand a chance at getting them in there on my gpx. the fairings are deceptively easy to remove and replace, the entire front section comes off with 6(i think) screws, and you have to reach in and disconnect the indicators then carefully remove the fairing. once its off, you can easily get at the back of the headlight.

Its useful to know how to remove the fairings, because if you get stuck in the middle of nowhere and need to get at the engine then its good to have done it once before.
Your under seat toolkit should have all the bits you need to do it.

oh, and dont drop the fairing when its off, it does alot more damage than you'd think

you may be able to reach up and under to do it. There is a rubber boot around the back of the headlight to keep water out, also the connector inside should just be a spring that goes across the globe and locks at the back of the headlight. You may find that from underneath isn't practical, though in the above video you can see how it looks at about 1 minute into the video.

Also, While you're in there, tighten the speedo cable in the back of the instrument cluster, they have a habit of loosening, and if it comes out and drags along the road, it can cause alot of trouble for you, also next to impossible to get to with the fairings on.
