Backpack's what are you using?

Fri Apr 02, 2010 8:55 pm

Looking into getting a backpack instead of using the tank bag, what are you using and where did you get it? I can't seem to find many, the only one that looks good for the price is this one http://www.bagworld.com.au/shop/detail/blackwolf-freestyle-30-backpack-blue-fr30/

I've got an Ixon (bike specific) had it for about 12 months, I wouldn't buy another one, can not adjust the straps when on your back, wasn't cheap either. My wife who commutes has an Alpinestars backpac and loves it, she has had it for about 18 months and it is still going well it was about $150 but the way it is lasting, was worth the money. If you really want to blow the bank account have a look at http://www.kriega.com.au/ We use their gear (US20 plus 2 US10s) for touring and they are great. Their backpacs are bike specific, perhaps you can get a combined, fathers (mother's) days, christmas, birthday present. I reckon I would stick to the tank bag though.

i have one of these. Ex bought it for me seven years ago and take it to work DAILY, regardless of if im on the bike or in the car. The only problem i have with it is there's a slight stitching issue between two internal zipped pockets in the front section that means that if i put something in one pocket, it sometimes pops into the other pocket inadvertently. This problem is not getting any worse and has been there for about 18 months. No other problems aside from i managed to loose the little clip to retain any camel style drinking straw if it's attached that's on the strap.

Also has a (removeable) water resistant outer shell that is stored inside a pocket at the bottom of the bag. Works well in light/med rain, and in heavy rain when i tested it a couple of years ago it actually kept everything covered by the shell. The only place that got wet was the small space between the underside of the shoulder strap and my shoulders.

As a long-term user of it, i would certainly recommend it.

Great idea for short trips around the 'burbs, where you want the flexibility to carry stuff quickly....

But for a long trip ?? No way - they are really bad for your shoulders/neck etc, you can get some serious problems with your neck if you put too much gear into a backpack and then hunch down onto a sportsbike !

Tank bag or Gearsack bag is far better for a longer trip.

Most magnetic tank bags have straps that can convert to a back pack. The magnetic tank bags are very easy to use and quick to remove when needed.. It also takes the weight off your neck and shoulders and most can expand for serious storage.

I've been using a Eusebio backpack first for for 8 months commuting on the pushie then last year on the motorbike.

*edit*
It's called a: Eusebio Sport - Cross Country 30

It's been awesome, I don't even notice it's there when riding.

It's a special backpack for active trekking/ walking/running. Hard pipe frame around the outside, extremely well padded, 2 straps around the front, one at stomach one at chest. These take most of the weight off the shoulders and the stomach ones have handy pockets in them.

It's bright orange, highly water resistant with reflectors, and a self containing water proof cover in bright yellow.

It's got straps all over it to pull it in to almost nothing on your back, and can expand to very large volume. There's a netting on the back to store more things in, I take shoes in there, and I've even carried a large midi keyboard in it with one occy strap! :D i expand the straps to put it over a guitar on my back when need be.

Will buy again in a heartbeat when I need to.
