Routine Maintenance!!

Wed Mar 30, 2005 1:03 pm

who is THE MAN?!!!

that's right......

well, i woke up early this morning, took the bike apart to millions of pieces (okay, thousands?) and let every liquid in it drain out while i went to the local kwaka dealership! (uh, minus the battery water! )
anyway, one K&N air filter, 4 liters of motul 3000+ (what i had in it before  ), a hi-flow oil filter, four NGK CR9E "IX" spark plugs, and lotsa "inspecting" (fuel filter, fork seals, compression tests, etc...) LATER, that tremendous sense of accomplishment is ALL MINE!! and boy does my baby PUUURRRRRRRRrr now!! (just couldn't do the damn "shims", not game for that one!)
anywho, just wanted to brag and tell others to do the same thing to their loved ones..... it makes you and the bike feel better for it. (not your thumbs, as those damned stick coils are a bitch to pull out and put back in!!!)

anyone else do their own maintenance? only hiccup was that at one point i dropped the damn spark plug socket into the pan of used oil... lovely. move that next time......
OH, and the BESTEST part?..... $182= DONE! (and five hours of my own labor! but i clean as i go and baby the bike, unlike the "local" dude would do)
oh, and i didn't take pics... come on, it already took me 5-ish hours as it was!!!
cheers all

java! that reminds me!
when i went down to the kwak joint, i asked them about the "resonator", and i really do trust the guy out in the shop... anyway, he explained it and said that they were there for a reason..... at warp factor 6+, with a LOT of air being gulped down, the resonators help it be utilized and not OVERDONE... basically, he said don't take them out cuz you'll jack up your top end response! cuz i was gunna do the milk bottle cap thing  but, decided against it! (btw, your pics outta the manual sure do make those things looks small, when they are HUGE!)

If that's the case wouldn't Kawasaki make them permanent instead of pieces of bottles you can just pull out :? I still reckon it's there to control "noise". Very common thing these resonators are, even in cars.

Yup. I just got my shims done because I have no idea how to do it myself and got my bike back with scratches on the frame and the tank bolts finger tight. Not happy Jan.

Well Done Yankee. :)

cheers all!!!!
yeah, that is the EXACT reason that i really did this one myself...... last time i took it somewhere, i doubt that they did half the shit i paid for and i found the fairings not put on correctly as well as a loose tank as well!!!
HOW HARD IS IT??? to actually "care" for customers bikes????
oh well, i know exactly what I did to it and EXACTLY what i put into it, and i didn't scratch shit!!!
brett, the sprockets and chain are good for another million miles (i hope) so won't be for a while.... thank god!!! altho, i would like that paddock stand at the shop to do chain maintenance!!!

Only use the halogen stuff though, it's the best. It's not so good as a blinker replacement fluid though.

Good Job on the maintenance. Your wallet and bike will thank you.

Well done bud, gives you a good feeling when all goes well.
Mate if you can spare the time, I don't think there's anything better to take your mind off stuff than tinkering with the bike.
Again, well done

Good stuff Marty, when you are up this way again you can service and polish mine. The bike that is. :P Then ya might understand the guys at the shop getting a little lazy after doing 10 a day. The local dealer here did a fantastic job on mine last service, everything had been done perfectly and he had cleaned it like it was new  $280 6k service.
