re: Chain lube

I used motul spray, had the least fling of the 4 or 5 that I've tried. Light spray every 3-400 kms or so seemed to work well.
Initially used a bit of diesel, but then started to use Motul chain cleaner to clean the chain every 2000kms or so - worked well to get whatever fling off there was on the wheel too.

I use Motorex 622 - http://www.performancemotorcycleparts.com/accessories_pages/chain_lube.htm

I've also got one of the little refillable cans under my seat - refills from the large can.
Works for me.

They also make a chain cleaner which works feckin brilliant, but it costs more than the chain wax so I've switched back to kero for cleaning :D

I am useing the motorex white stuff at the moment I generally lube anytime i have been for a ride as i dont comute and clean whenever its strarting too look real messy down there probably every thousand km or so.

I believe the idea is to have enough lube to keep the orings moist without a big buildup of grit and stuff.

I still reckon the maxima wax was better stuff.

I rarely lube my chain..... Normally only when I remember or if I wash the bike. As for cleaning it? I have NEVER cleaned my chain.

My sprockets and chain have lasted 24,000 kays. When the bike was in the shop getting new tyres earlier this week I asked the blokes about getting new ones. They said it's still got a few thousand kays left in it.

I lube my chain twice a week - every 500kms or so.
Try to clean it once every couple of months.

I use Shell Advanced Chain Lube, got the can when I got the bike last year - I lube every week after wash (500k a week) and that can has lasted 20,000k so far. If flings a bit, but I put the farker on the centre stand get her in 6th and build the revs up. Then I wipe off the rim with WD40.

As for cleaning - a minor clean can be done with WD40 on a rag, but for a real deep down clean Parafin works wonders. Just remember to leave the chain over night for the parafin to evaporate before you lube again.

I do a minor clean every couple of months and a major one about twice a year. How much you ride and what you ride in make a difference. If you're a fair weather biker and only ever ride clean roads you won't need to clean as much as those who ride in rain and use graval/dust tracks.

Just as a warning (I know most arn't this dumb) but don't hold a rag to the chain with the motor running. A guy who lived over the road from me in England tried it, and now the fingers on his right hand are a tad shorter then they should be

photomike,

I've used the Shell stuff before, and found it a bit thin. Motul chain lube stays on the chain a LOT better. On my Honda some of the chain lube that flings off goes straight onto the exhaust collector. With Shell lube it almost looked like a drive shaft seal was leaking. With the Motul, no such issue. The chain stays "wet" longer, too.

What's left in the Shell can gets used for stuff like oiling hinges, bonnet and boot catches on the family's car collection and other stuff like that. It's good stuff, just a little runny.

Belray super clean here too. (I haven't tried anything else for a long time, got sick of throwing out near full cans super fling stuff.) And I use Mr Sheen on the rim too (I use it to do the whole bike, except exhaust cans and brake rotors :))

Wax and polish as you dust with Mr Sheen!

I've used kero or diesel and an old toothbrush to clean the chain. But recently found Motul Chain Cleaner that works wonders - didn't need the toothbrush, just a rag.
I know others use WD40.

I've just started using maxima chain wax and think its great. Its heap better than the shit they put on it at the bike shop. The other shit ended up all over the wheel. I suppose if you buy anything else youd better buy something to clean that rear wheel at the same time.
