buying a van

hey guys
lately i have been considering selling my baby ute and getting a van.
nothing classy just a run about van to chuck the bike in the back out of the rain and run around to the track and not use a tank of fuel

just wondering what you guys think are the pick of the bunch??

i am looking at spending no more then 5000. So that doesnt get me much i know.

around 1995-2000 with 200 000klms seems to be the go after looking on a few sites

any pros and cons would be greatly appreciated and also rego costs if there more expensive then a 30yr old ute haha

Mate just make sure its been serviced regularly as most vans get flogged to death

hmmm Van should be normal rego... It's a light comercial but generally they'll only be 4's So you should be looking at in the ball park of $300 for 6mnths ($500 odd for the year).... Thats what they run me for the deo so couldn't see it being any different.

Iv'e got a 2001 Ford Transit Van.......... Really good on fuel with a 2.4 ltr turbo diesel, 750 - 800 klms from a tank (75-80ltrs) = about 10 klm per ltr.... suprisingly really easy to drive and to park also. There are three different wheel bases and three different roof heights. Mine is mid roof and mid wheelbase. Prices range from about $7,000 for a mid 90's petrol model, to over $40,000 for a new one Something like mine would be around $12,000 - $17,000, depending on condition and extras.... rego costs are similar to cars.... heaps of room inside, especially head room when getting the bike in and out, plus the extra storage over the front cabin...

Cant go wrong with a Tranny Van mate, 1000,000 English Tradesmen can't be wrong

yer the old ute is suck a nice car, but i worry about it to much.
whereas if i get a "tidy" van, i wont worry as much as my baby ute.
and fuel consumption will be better

a mitsubishi express 2.4ltr EFI petrol
ford econovan 1.8ltr (pre 2000) 2.0ltr (post 2000) carbyd petrol.
toyota hiace 2.4ltr petrol carby.

lols. any help appreciated. would love a turbo diesel but cant fork out the $$ upfront for one

Make sure you measure the available room inside and allow for securing the bike. Didn't think the mitsubishi was that long but it may be OK...... No point having a van and driving around with the back door open

Got a couple of pics of the one up the road I told you about.
Its the SWB, I think (compared to Robs), but had a look in the back and I reckon theres plenty of room for a couple of bikes..

Its a little rough bit looked ok, nothing glaringly wrong with it. A few dings but could make a good blank canvas for some KSRC graphics..

Looking at the engine size I'd say its a diesel, so definately worth a look...

Saw it again today and he has dropped the price to $3990, I think due to the rego running out this month..

will get my ass into gear then hehe

have driven just about every van under the sun in the last 20 years

late 90's mits had the same efi 2.4 , only 50 litre tank and about 15L/100k

hiace is the pick of any vans, you pay more buy a good one and you will always sell it
and relatively good on fuel

ok forget the ford tragic , pos

had one in about 2004 short one TDI ,

in that time it did the fly by wire pedal box so you couldnt drive it
it went to ford they said it was fixed , it made it about 1k from the dealer before it went back again

door locks replaced, including a trip in the panel shop to get the door fixed when the monkeys damaged
it replacing the door lok

it kept stalling so put into ford, they sent to a diesel specialist who pulled the fuel pump apart and said fuel pump worn due to
crap fuel , no warranty coverage $5K bill

which leaves the 'ECONOvan' economy in name alone, had 1 as a loaner while the tragic was in getting done

the fuel tank is 63 litres which will get you precisely 324k which is about 1k short of the petrol station
