The postie's track day

Postby ty on Sun Oct 25, 2009 7:58 pm

Firstly, sorry to everyone if it seems this was hush-hush - I'd thought I'd mentioned I was going and what it was, but it seems I hadn't. So sorry to those who felt like they only got bits and pieces of the story.

It all started on the Oxley run, with Gos mentioning that CanberraRiders were thinking of doing a postie race at Marulan (or some similar story ;) ), and Rob telling Gos that I might be interested, and Gos asking me if I was interested, and me going F#$K yeah!

So CanberraRiders did an Introduction Ride Day today at the Marulan Driver Training Centre.
Two blue sessions for L&P riders.
Two Green sessions for more comfortable riders.
Two other sessions (yellow and red) for the track riders.
Repeat that three times or so, with a couple of Cunning Stunts demos, and a Postie Bike Challenge in the middle of the day and you have today's ride day.

The Kawonda had a awesome day - after getting up and 3:30 and getting there around 7:15, I escorted the blue sessions, and ran in the slow green group - so I got 45 min track sessions each time! :D
The green turned a few heads, and the little beast surprised a few punters around the track I think - she loved the tight little track.

The postie challenge consisted of 5 posties (including Gos), one of which 'died' on the opening lap.
We did:
- a sighting lap
- parked
- a le mans running start (while putting on a hi-vis vest)
- one lap then stop and pick up a letter
- one lap then stop and have morning tea (mars bars are HARD to eat fast)
- one lap then stop and drop off the letter
- one more lap for the finish.

Gos forgot to deliver his letter, so I think he was disqualified;)
Between the other 3 of us I'm not sure who 'won' - I was laughing too hard.

Was a fun day, no idea what times I did, and more pics and vid will probably come later.
For now here's a photo of a print the photographer did of me early in the day - better to come...

Is this the start of a new race format...Marulan/posties...

Now if I put an Australia Post logo on the nine I might just have a chance of keeping up with these guys.

The single lap format on/off the bike would still suit the posties me thinks.

 Awesome stuff. Looks like you need to lift the footpegs to get a bit more lean angle.

Who would have thought a postie bike could carry Gos AND a letter... sounds like an awesome day.

:D They were!
Gos' and one other couldn't accelerate away from a guard dog. The other one out there just hadn't had any track time on it yet, so I knew the good lines ;)

And Nelso, I've ground down a large portion of the right footpeg - I took to lifting my leg in the air Rossi and Stoner style to let it hinge up ;)

I also got to meet up with a few members I either hadn't met in person yet, or met once a while ago and forgot  - Gos (of course), Mick C, ProblemChild, whickle and scotty (I think - sorry mate). Apologies if I forgot anyone - today was a blurr...

Great stuff Ty. I think you need to do a burnout on someone's buffalo lawn as you deliver the letter.

Well I have to say that the Kawonda was absolutely flying around Marulan, you definitely had the most pace out of any of the Postie's mate.....and you were faster than a few of the other bikes too :kuda:

I have to also say that the guys running Marulan are absolutely fantastic, I was really impressed with how well the day went and their overall attitude was great. The track is pretty tight and challenging, I never got out of second gear on the Crim, but a lot of fun too.

The Surfer even got to do a bunch of laps as I was using it to lead the escorted groups we were running for the beginners. My main problem was making sure I didn't get into it too much and leave them all behind because it was just as much fun punting it around as the Crim :kuda:

Here's what's been posted so far for on track footage of the Postie Challenge

Bite my shiny arse Mick !!! and if you had been there, you would have seen plenty of it !!!

Ty's postie has now achieved legendary status among the CanberraRIDERS crew :kuda: - fast enough to hang with plenty of bigger bikes, and Tony sure got his money's worth with the number of sessions he managed to 'escort' !! It was a hoot watching the mini-meanie....

All up this was a really successful day, as Mick C says, the operators there are fantastic to deal with. Heaps of our members who had never been on a racetrack all enjoyed themselves immensely - maybe its something this place could consider ? Its not hard to get a few newbies together, MDTC is only 90 minutes from Sidders.....its a great little track for first-timers to learn about track-day techniques and *stuff* .... :kuda:

More footage will be added here shortly......and some photos of a certain barge with *shock* knee-down action !@!@!@! yes, incredible but true....

sweet - I'm a legend now ;)
It was a seriously good day - and the Canberra crew made the KSRC ring-in very welcome.
Could be a real option for KSRC I think if someone wants to organise it..... ;)
